Align your degree to clinical or health IT roles
Texas Health Resources fills roles in nursing informatics, health data analytics, and clinical operations where your degree field must directly match the position. Pull the job's O*NET occupation profile to confirm your credential aligns before you apply, since a mismatch disqualifies OPT authorization.
Confirm STEM OPT eligibility before your EAD expires
If your degree is in a STEM-designated field, you can extend OPT by 24 months, but Texas Health Resources must be enrolled in E-Verify. Verify their E-Verify participation status through USCIS before accepting an offer, and submit your extension application at least 90 days before your current EAD expires.
Target departments with documented H-1B transition history
Roles in health informatics, clinical research coordination, and pharmacy benefit from Texas Health Resources's H-1B sponsorship history. Prioritizing these teams during your job search gives you a clearer path from OPT employment to long-term status, not just a 12-month window with no follow-through.
Research prevailing wage rates before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for your specific occupation and Texas county before salary discussions. Texas Health Resources must pay at least the prevailing wage if it later files an H-1B on your behalf, so accepting below that rate creates complications at the transition stage.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Texas Health Resources's sponsorship pattern
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by employer and occupation code, so you can see which roles Texas Health Resources has actively sponsored. Use that data to prioritize job titles that already have a sponsorship track record rather than applying broadly across all open positions.
Submit your I-983 training plan within the required window
For STEM OPT, your employer must co-sign Form I-983 documenting your training goals and supervision structure. Get Texas Health Resources's HR team to complete their sections before your DSO submits the SEVIS update, since delays in employer sign-off are the most common reason STEM OPT extensions are held up.
Texas Health Resources OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Texas Health Resources sponsor OPT visas?
Texas Health Resources doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not a visa an employer files for. What Texas Health Resources does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD and, for STEM-eligible roles, participates in E-Verify to support the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Which roles or departments at Texas Health Resources are most likely to hire OPT students?
Roles in health informatics, clinical data analytics, nursing, pharmacy, and healthcare administration see the most OPT hiring at Texas Health Resources. These positions typically require degrees in health sciences, information management, or clinical fields, and they're also the roles most likely to lead to H-1B sponsorship after your OPT period ends.
How do I apply for OPT jobs at Texas Health Resources?
Apply through Texas Health Resources's careers portal with your current OPT EAD and I-20 showing authorized employment dates. Confirm your EAD is valid for the anticipated start date and that your degree field aligns with the role's specialty occupation requirements. Use Migrate Mate to verify which job titles Texas Health Resources has a history of sponsoring for H-1B, so you can target roles with a long-term path.
How do I know if Texas Health Resources will sponsor my H-1B after OPT?
H-1B sponsorship decisions are made role-by-role, not as a company-wide policy. Ask during the offer stage whether the team has sponsored H-1B for the position before, and request clarity on the timeline relative to the annual H-1B lottery registration window in March. Roles in health IT and clinical informatics have the strongest precedent at large nonprofit health systems like Texas Health Resources.
What is the typical timeline for OPT employment to start at Texas Health Resources?
Your OPT EAD must be valid on your first day of work, and USCIS recommends filing the I-765 at least 90 days before your program end date. Texas Health Resources's onboarding, background checks, and credentialing can take four to six weeks, so factor that into your start date when timing your OPT authorization period.
How does Texas Health Resources hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Texas Health Resources can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Texas Health Resources's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
