Verify your EAD aligns with ThedaCare's hiring timeline
ThedaCare's clinical onboarding can take six to eight weeks due to credentialing and background checks. Confirm your OPT EAD start date gives enough runway to clear those steps before your authorization window begins, or you risk losing weeks of valid work time.
Target roles matching your degree field exactly
ThedaCare screens OPT candidates for direct alignment between degree field and job function, especially in nursing, health informatics, and healthcare administration. A mismatched job title weakens your case for STEM OPT extension later, so check O*NET to confirm occupational classification before applying.
Confirm ThedaCare's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, confirm ThedaCare's specific hiring entity is enrolled, since large health systems sometimes hire through subsidiary entities that may have separate E-Verify registrations.
Research ThedaCare's H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to review ThedaCare's H-1B Labor Condition Application filings by role and department. This shows which job titles the organization has historically sponsored, helping you target positions with a proven pathway beyond OPT rather than roles with no sponsorship precedent.
Prepare your credential evaluation before the interview
Healthcare employers like ThedaCare frequently require foreign academic credential evaluations before extending offers to international candidates. Have a NACES-approved evaluation ready for your degree, particularly if you completed coursework outside the U.S., so the hiring process isn't delayed after an offer is made.
Negotiate your start date around USCIS OPT timelines
USCIS recommends applying for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date, but EAD processing can take three months or longer. Align your ThedaCare offer letter start date with a realistic EAD receipt window so you're not pressuring HR for repeated start date changes.
ThedaCare OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does ThedaCare sponsor OPT visas?
ThedaCare doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something an employer files for. What ThedaCare does is hire candidates who already hold an OPT EAD. The company has a track record of hiring international graduates, particularly in clinical and healthcare operations roles, and has sponsored H-1B visas for employees after OPT.
Which departments at ThedaCare typically hire OPT students?
ThedaCare most commonly hires OPT students in clinical roles such as nursing and allied health, as well as in health informatics, healthcare administration, and data analytics. Roles that require a directly related degree and fall under STEM-designated fields offer the strongest path to a 24-month STEM OPT extension through ThedaCare's E-Verify enrollment.
How do I confirm ThedaCare will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask the hiring manager or HR contact directly whether the specific hiring entity is enrolled in E-Verify, as STEM OPT requires employer E-Verify participation. Your DSO also prepares the I-983 training plan, which ThedaCare must sign. Get written confirmation of E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer if STEM OPT extension is part of your plan.
How do I know if ThedaCare will sponsor my H-1B after OPT?
Use Migrate Mate to review ThedaCare's DOL Labor Condition Application history, which shows which job titles and departments the organization has filed H-1B petitions for. A role with prior LCA filings is a stronger bet for future sponsorship. You can also ask during the offer negotiation stage whether the position is eligible for H-1B sponsorship after OPT ends.
What should I bring to a ThedaCare interview as an OPT candidate?
Bring your current or pending OPT EAD, your I-20 with your DSO's recent signature, and a foreign credential evaluation if your degree was earned outside the U.S. ThedaCare's HR team will typically ask to verify your work authorization documents during onboarding, so having them organized in advance avoids delays in the offer and start date process.
How does ThedaCare hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. ThedaCare can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check ThedaCare's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
