INTRODUCTION
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
The iOS Google Search App (iGA) Platform team is responsible for supporting the core app level infrastructure used to build features in Search. Team members have wide latitude to propose changes, own pieces of the app infrastructure, and drive meaningful adoption of new tooling, APIs, and systems.
As an Individual Contributor, you will drive the technical strategy to elevate the Google App on iOS. You will be responsible for comprehensively identifying and remedying unreliable quality across critical user journeys, transforming iGA into an iOS experience.
In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. In joining the Search team, you'll have an opportunity to make an impact on billions of people globally.

- Establish strong relationships with partner engineering teams. Work cross-functionally with Product and UX to both prototype and build new features.
- Run live experiments to collect metrics, evaluate results, and iterate to refine the product experience. Create and scale engineering systems to prevent backsliding on appyness.
- Collaborate with our partners in the broader identity organization to integrate their new libraries and oversee the implementation within iGA suggesting improvements to the API designs where necessary.
- Maintain high-quality code structure and architecture with a focus on modularity, testability, and stability. Support internal feature developers across search by participating in design reviews and providing guidance on the iGA platform.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience programming in C++, Objective-C, or Swift.
- 7 years of experience with iOS application development.
- Experience designing and implementing user interfaces for iOS applications using UIKit or SwiftUI.
- Experience with full software development lifecycle (SDLC) in a production environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 7 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 5 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools or debugging.
- Experience with iOS multiple concurrency systems (e.g., Swift Concurrency, Actors, Publishers, GCD, NSOperations) and managing complex multithreaded code.
- Experience in Swift or Objective-C, but not both, and willing to learn the other and jump around where necessary.
- Experience developing accessible technologies.
- Familiarity with debugging performance related issues with tooling like instruments and integrating support for tracing through client code.

Showcase platform depth beyond app development
Google's iOS roles often require experience below the app layer, including instruments profiling, memory management, and Swift concurrency. Highlight contributions to frameworks, open source libraries, or performance-critical systems to stand out from candidates with only product app experience.
Target Google teams that sponsor E-3 visas
If you're an Australian citizen, the E-3 has no lottery and can be filed year-round. Google sponsors E-3 visas for qualifying roles, so confirm your target team's hiring timeline aligns with consular appointment availability before accepting an offer.
Prepare your portfolio for system design interviews
Google's iOS interview loop includes architecture and system design rounds specific to mobile, not just coding. Document past decisions around offline sync, push notification handling, or large-scale data rendering, as interviewers will probe the reasoning behind your technical choices.
Understand how H-1B cap timing affects your start date
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS only accepts cap-subject petitions in April for an October 1 start date. Plan your Google interview process so an offer can be extended before the registration window opens in March.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open iOS roles at Google by visa type
Not every open iOS Engineer role at Google will be eligible for the same visa categories. Use Migrate Mate to filter live Google job postings by the visa types you qualify for, so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is confirmed.
Align your LCA prevailing wage tier with your experience level
Google files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Your offered wage must meet the prevailing wage for your location and job zone, so understanding which wage level reflects your iOS seniority helps you evaluate whether an offer is compliant.

Find iOS Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for iOS Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for iOS Engineer roles. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your petition enters the annual lottery, with registration typically opening in March. Google also sponsors H-1B1 visas for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, and E-3 visas for Australian citizens, which bypass the lottery entirely.
How do I apply for iOS Engineer jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal, but the interview process for iOS roles typically involves a recruiter screen, a technical phone round focused on Swift and data structures, and a virtual or onsite loop covering coding, system design, and behavioral rounds. Preparing a strong portfolio of mobile architecture decisions significantly strengthens your candidacy. You can browse open iOS Engineer positions at Google filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for iOS Engineers?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for iOS Engineer roles. The H-1B is most common and subject to an annual lottery. Australian citizens can apply for the E-3, which has a separate allocation and no lottery. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1, which also avoids the H-1B cap.
What qualifications does Google expect for iOS Engineer roles?
Google's iOS Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field, along with demonstrable proficiency in Swift and Objective-C. Interviewers look for experience with performance optimization, familiarity with Apple platform frameworks, and the ability to work across large, multi-team codebases. Contributions to open source mobile projects or published App Store applications strengthen your profile considerably.
How do I manage the timeline between a Google offer and my visa filing?
Once Google extends an offer, your recruiter coordinates with immigration counsel to begin the visa process. For H-1B cap cases, the timeline is constrained by the April filing window and October 1 start date. For E-3 or H-1B1 applicants, processing moves faster since there's no lottery. If you're transitioning from OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and STEM extension eligibility before negotiating your start date with Google.
