Align your portfolio to Apple platforms
Before applying, rebuild or refocus your GitHub and portfolio projects around UIKit, SwiftUI, and Apple-specific frameworks like Core Data or ARKit. Apple's hiring bar for iOS Engineers rewards deep platform familiarity, not general mobile experience.
Target roles matching your exact visa type
Apple sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT, but not every open role moves at the same speed. Use Migrate Mate to filter iOS Engineer openings at Apple by the visa type you hold, so you're applying where sponsorship is already active.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
For specialty occupation filings, USCIS scrutinizes whether your computer science or engineering degree directly supports the iOS Engineer role. If your degree title is non-standard, get a credential evaluation completed before you receive an offer.
Understand Apple's internal transfer window for H-1B cap
If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Apple can file a cap-exempt transfer and you can start immediately upon filing, without waiting for approval. Confirm this option with your Apple recruiter before accepting the offer.
Time your OPT application around Apple's hiring cycles
Apple recruits iOS Engineers heavily in late winter and spring for summer and fall start dates. If you're on F-1, apply for OPT through your DSO early enough so your EAD arrives before your intended start date, which USCIS recommends filing 90 days in advance.
Negotiate start date around LCA certification timelines
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting the H-1B petition. DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, but build at least two weeks of buffer into your proposed start date to avoid gaps.

Find iOS Engineer at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for iOS Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for iOS Engineers and has a well-established process for doing so. Apple's legal and immigration team handles petitions internally, and the company files both regular cap-subject H-1B petitions and cap-exempt transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. Sponsorship is standard for qualified candidates in this role.
How do I apply for iOS Engineer jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers site at jobs.apple.com, searching for iOS Engineer or related titles under the Software Engineering category. Tailor your resume to highlight Swift proficiency, UIKit or SwiftUI experience, and any shipped App Store products. Migrate Mate lists open iOS Engineer roles at Apple filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which can help you identify the right openings faster.
Which visa types does Apple sponsor for iOS Engineer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), and F-1 OPT and CPT for students. For permanent residence, Apple supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and how far along you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications does Apple expect for iOS Engineer roles?
Apple typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. For H-1B specialty occupation purposes, your degree must directly relate to the role. Beyond credentials, Apple's iOS Engineer interviews assess Swift fluency, object-oriented design, system design, and hands-on experience building and shipping iOS applications, often including a multi-stage technical interview loop.
How do I plan my timeline for starting at Apple on a work visa?
Timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B transfers from another employer can start within days of filing. New H-1B cap-subject petitions are subject to the annual lottery, with an October 1 start date at the earliest. E-3 and TN visas can be obtained at a consulate in a matter of weeks. Build buffer time for DOL Labor Condition Application certification, which typically takes up to seven business days, before any H-1B petition is submitted.
