Align your stack with Apple's infrastructure
Apple's cloud engineering teams run heavily on custom silicon, private cloud, and large-scale distributed systems. Tailor your resume to highlight Kubernetes, bare-metal infrastructure, and private cloud experience over generic AWS or Azure work.
Target teams that historically file LCAs
Not all Apple orgs sponsor at the same pace. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure database for Labor Condition Application filings under job titles like Cloud Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer to pinpoint which Apple business units are actively hiring sponsored roles.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Apple sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and H-1B1 visa depending on your nationality. Raise your visa status early in the recruiter conversation so Apple's immigration team can confirm the right category and avoid delays after an offer is extended.
Prepare cloud architecture documentation for I-129 support
USCIS requires detailed job duty descriptions in the H-1B petition. Work with Apple's immigration counsel to document your role's specialty occupation requirements using specific technical artifacts, system diagrams, or prior project deliverables that demonstrate a direct degree nexus.
Start your Green Card timeline conversation at onboarding
PERM labor certification for EB-2 or EB-3 can take two or more years before USCIS even begins adjudicating the I-140. Asking Apple's immigration team about their PERM filing timelines on day one gives you the clearest picture of your long-term path.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Apple posts Cloud Engineer openings across multiple teams simultaneously, making it hard to know which roles are open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's active Cloud Engineer postings by the specific visa types you're eligible for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Engineer roles. Apple participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April for cap-subject candidates and also files cap-exempt petitions in some cases. Because Apple has an established immigration program, the sponsorship process is handled internally with in-house or retained immigration counsel, which typically means faster coordination once an offer is signed.
How do I apply for Cloud Engineer jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers site or browse visa-filtered openings on Migrate Mate, which lets you surface Apple's Cloud Engineer roles by the specific visa category you hold. Apple's Cloud Engineer hiring process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews covering systems design and distributed infrastructure, and a final virtual or on-site loop with the hiring team.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Cloud Engineer roles?
Apple files H-1B petitions for the broadest pool of candidates. Australian citizens are strong candidates for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and renews indefinitely. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA. Candidates currently on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT can typically begin working while Apple prepares the underlying work visa petition.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Cloud Engineer roles?
Apple's Cloud Engineer postings typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B and E-3 visa purposes. Hands-on experience with large-scale distributed systems, networking fundamentals, and infrastructure automation is weighted heavily. Familiarity with Apple's custom silicon ecosystem is a differentiator for infrastructure-focused roles.
How do I handle timing if my OPT is expiring while interviewing at Apple?
If you're on F-1 STEM OPT, you have up to 36 months of work authorization, which gives meaningful runway. Apple can file an H-1B cap-subject petition during the April registration window for an October 1 start. If your OPT expires before October 1, a cap-gap provision under USCIS rules may bridge your status automatically while the petition is pending, provided Apple files before your OPT end date.
