INTRODUCTION
Datadog's Cloud Networks team designs, builds, and maintains the production network infrastructure that powers everything built on top of our platform across AWS, GCP, Azure, and beyond. In this role, you'll set technical direction for how we scale our multi-region, multi-cloud network footprint while keeping reliability and performance high. You'll partner closely with internal teams and Cloud Service Providers to troubleshoot complex connectivity issues, integrate new networking capabilities, and improve the foundations our engineers and customers rely on. This is a high-impact opportunity to drive meaningful improvements in scale, resiliency, and cost efficiency.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture, the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and operate cloud network infrastructure across AWS, GCP, Azure, and Neoclouds in a multi-region environment.
- Own connectivity between clouds, customers, and developers—ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable network paths.
- Set clear technical direction for expanding data centers and evolving the network while maintaining stability and performance.
- Improve cross-site and cross-region connectivity patterns to support Datadog's growing platform needs.
- Lead deep investigations into latency, packet loss, and connectivity failures – from pcap and path analysis through to escalations with cloud providers that may originate from customer support.
- Identify and deliver network-related efficiency and cost-saving opportunities that positively impact business health.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Who You Are:
- You have deep networking expertise. You understand BGP, route policies, path selection, prefix advertisement, and what breaks in large-scale networking.
- You have substantial experience designing, building, and evolving large-scale Software-Defined Networks—including interconnected environments.
- You enjoy building software and reach for code as the default way to operate a network—performing as a strong developer in a networking-heavy domain.
- You're comfortable owning ambiguous problems, setting direction, and driving cross-team collaboration—especially with teams distributed across time zones.
- You bring practical experience operating production infrastructure and responding to incidents (including participating in on-call ownership where applicable).
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Align your cloud certifications to Datadog's stack
Datadog's Cloud Engineer roles consistently require hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure alongside infrastructure-as-code tooling like Terraform. Certifications in those platforms signal credibility before your resume ever reaches a hiring manager.
Target roles labeled infrastructure or platform engineering
Datadog posts Cloud Engineer openings under several titles, including Site Reliability Engineer and Platform Engineer. Searching only for 'Cloud Engineer' will miss active roles that fall squarely within your target function and sponsor the same visa types.
Confirm your visa category fits the role level
Datadog sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT across Cloud Engineer positions, but each category has constraints. TN requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship. OPT carries a 60-day unemployment limit, so time your application relative to your current end date.
Ask about the LCA before accepting an offer
Before Datadog can file your H-1B petition with USCIS, the company must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Asking your recruiter where they are in that process tells you how quickly your start date is actually achievable.
Filter sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Identifying which Cloud Engineer openings at Datadog are actively open to sponsored candidates takes time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Datadog's current listings by visa type so you're only applying to roles where your status is already accounted for.
Prepare for technical screens that reflect production cloud environments
Datadog's Cloud Engineer interviews typically include systems design around monitoring pipelines and container orchestration. Practicing Kubernetes troubleshooting scenarios and multi-region failover architecture will position you better than general cloud theory alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Engineers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Engineer roles. The company also supports H-1B1 visa for eligible nationals, meaning sponsorship isn't limited to the general H-1B visa cap lottery alone. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, Datadog can file an H-1B transfer so you're not locked into the April lottery cycle.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly sponsor for Cloud Engineer roles?
Datadog sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Cloud Engineer positions, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose role qualifies under USMCA occupation categories. F-1 CPT requires enrollment in a qualifying academic program at the time of hiring.
How do I apply for Cloud Engineer jobs at Datadog?
Applications go through Datadog's careers portal, where Cloud Engineer roles are listed with location, team, and seniority level. To surface only the openings where visa sponsorship is confirmed, browse Datadog's listings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by the specific visa types Datadog has sponsored for this function. Tailor your resume to the observability and infrastructure tooling each job description calls out explicitly.
What qualifications does Datadog expect for Cloud Engineer roles?
Most Cloud Engineer postings at Datadog expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B petitions. Practically, hands-on experience with container orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, and at least one major cloud provider carries significant weight in the interview process.
How do I think about timing when applying on OPT or waiting for an H-1B transfer?
If you're on F-1 OPT, the 60-day unemployment window means you should have an offer and onboarding timeline confirmed before your current role ends. For an H-1B transfer, Datadog can file the petition while you continue working for your current employer, letting you start without waiting for USCIS approval, provided you maintain valid H-1B status throughout the transition.
