Verify your license transfers across state lines
Heartland Family Service operates across multiple Midwestern states, and your counseling license may not be recognized in every location they hire. Check whether your home state license requires endorsement or additional supervised hours before applying.
Request the LCA before accepting an offer
Before signing, ask Heartland HR to confirm the Labor Condition Application is filed with DOL for your specific work site. LCA wage levels for mental health roles vary by county, so verify the offered salary meets the prevailing wage for that location.
Target roles tied to underserved community programs
Heartland Family Service frequently staffs roles connected to grant-funded and government-contracted programs serving low-income or at-risk populations. These positions often have stronger institutional backing for H-1B sponsorship because turnover in those programs is costly.
Clarify CPT and OPT eligibility with your DSO early
If you are on F-1 status, confirm with your Designated School Official that your clinical placement at a community mental health organization qualifies as CPT or OPT. Heartland's practicum and internship roles have different authorization requirements than full-time employed positions.
Browse open Mental Health Counseling roles on Migrate Mate
Heartland Family Service lists Mental Health Counseling positions across multiple locations at different times of year. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Heartland openings and check which roles are currently accepting visa-sponsored candidates before reaching out to HR.
Time your application around USCIS H-1B cap registration
If your goal is H-1B sponsorship, align your offer timeline so Heartland can register you during the annual March lottery window. Starting the hiring process in January or February gives HR enough lead time to coordinate with their immigration counsel.

Find Mental Health Counseling at Heartland Family Service JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Heartland Family Service sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Health Counselors?
Yes, Heartland Family Service has sponsored H-1B visas for Mental Health Counseling roles. Sponsorship is not automatic with every offer, so you should ask the hiring team directly during the interview process whether the specific position is eligible. Roles tied to ongoing community or government-funded programs tend to have the clearest sponsorship pathways.
How do I apply for Mental Health Counseling jobs at Heartland Family Service?
Applications go through Heartland Family Service's careers portal, where roles are listed by program area and location. You can also browse current openings on Migrate Mate, which filters for positions open to visa-sponsored candidates. Tailor your application to the specific population the program serves, whether that is children, survivors of trauma, or adults in crisis.
Which visa types does Heartland Family Service commonly use for Mental Health Counseling roles?
Heartland Family Service has sponsored candidates through H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Mental Health Counseling positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates completing supervised hours toward licensure. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals who hold a qualifying counseling or social work degree recognized under USMCA.
What qualifications does Heartland Family Service expect for Mental Health Counseling roles?
Most positions require a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a closely related clinical field. Licensure requirements vary by role and state, with some positions accepting candidates who hold a provisional license and are working toward full licensure under supervision. Experience with evidence-based modalities like CBT or trauma-informed care is frequently listed as preferred in Heartland job postings.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process typically take for a Mental Health Counseling offer at Heartland Family Service?
From a signed offer to an approved H-1B petition, the process generally takes three to six months under standard USCIS processing, or as few as two to three weeks with premium processing. If your start date falls after April 1, Heartland may need to file for a cap-exempt position or bridge your status using OPT or another work-authorized category while the H-1B is pending.
