Frame Your Background Around Refugee Services Experience
IRC's Customer Service roles focus on clients with trauma histories, language barriers, and complex resettlement needs. Highlight any case coordination, social services, or multilingual support experience in your resume before you apply. Generalist customer service backgrounds without this context are easy to overlook.
Confirm Sponsorship Eligibility Before Your Interview
IRC sponsors multiple visa types, but not every open role is approved for sponsorship. Ask the recruiter directly during the screening call whether the specific position has been cleared for visa support. Waiting until the offer stage to raise this costs you time during a grace period.
Understand How PERM Fits Your Long-Term Plan
If IRC sponsors you on an H-1B, PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 becomes a realistic next step. For Indian and Chinese nationals, PERM priority dates matter significantly. Research your category's current cut-off date at the DOL Visa Bulletin before accepting any offer.
Target IRC Offices With Active Resettlement Caseloads
IRC operates offices across more than 25 U.S. cities, but sponsorship activity concentrates where resettlement caseloads are highest. Offices in New York, Atlanta, Dallas, and Salt Lake City consistently post Customer Service and client support roles with higher hiring velocity than smaller field offices.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Live IRC Openings by Visa Type
IRC posts Customer Service roles across multiple job boards, but not all listings flag visa sponsorship clearly. Migrate Mate lets you filter IRC openings specifically by the visa types they support, so you can identify which roles align with your status before spending time on applications.
Prepare Your OPT or TN Documents Before Receiving an Offer
IRC has sponsored F-1 OPT and TN candidates for Customer Service roles. If you're on OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and E-Verify compliance requirements before the offer stage. TN applicants from Canada or Mexico should have their job offer letter and credential documentation ready to present at the border.

Find Customer Service at International Rescue Committee JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does International Rescue Committee sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Service?
Yes, the International Rescue Committee sponsors H-1B visas and has done so for roles across its operations, including customer-facing and client support functions. Because H-1B sponsorship requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, positions that involve case management, program coordination, or specialized language support tend to have stronger sponsorship outcomes than entry-level generalist roles.
How do I apply for Customer Service jobs at International Rescue Committee?
Applications go through IRC's careers portal at rescue.org/careers. Search for Customer Service, Client Services, or Resettlement Support roles filtered by your preferred city. Migrate Mate also aggregates IRC's open positions and lets you filter by visa type, which helps you identify which roles are actively sponsoring before you apply. Tailor your application to show direct experience with vulnerable or underserved populations.
Which visa types does International Rescue Committee commonly use for Customer Service roles?
IRC has sponsored H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for staff across its U.S. programs. For Customer Service and client support roles, F-1 OPT and H-1B are the most frequent pathways. J-1 sponsorship sometimes applies to exchange visitor program participants placed in direct service or support roles.
What qualifications does International Rescue Committee expect for Customer Service positions?
IRC typically looks for candidates with experience in social services, community health, resettlement support, or multilingual client communication. A bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, international relations, or a related field strengthens H-1B eligibility by meeting specialty occupation requirements. Proficiency in a second language spoken by IRC's client populations, such as Arabic, Somali, Dari, or Spanish, is frequently listed as preferred or required.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take at International Rescue Committee?
From application to start date, expect a process of roughly two to four months when IRC is sponsoring a work visa. H-1B transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer can move faster. For new H-1B petitions, USCIS standard processing runs three to six months, though premium processing reduces that to roughly two to three weeks. OPT and TN candidates typically have shorter onboarding timelines.
