Align your degree to KLA's specialty occupation standard
KLA's Project Engineer roles typically require a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials science. USCIS evaluates H-1B eligibility based on whether your specific field directly relates to the role, so a closely matched degree strengthens your petition significantly.
Target KLA's semiconductor equipment divisions first
KLA hires Project Engineers across wafer inspection, process control, and metrology product lines. Roles tied to specific tool families or yield management systems tend to have more defined technical scopes, which makes the specialty occupation argument clearer when your employer files the H-1B petition.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Project Engineer roles at KLA
KLA posts Project Engineer openings across multiple sites and product divisions, and positions fill quickly. Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship history, so you can identify and apply to the most relevant openings without sorting through roles that won't support your status.
Request LCA details before accepting a written offer
Before signing, ask your KLA recruiter which DOL wage level the Labor Condition Application will list. Your offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for the specific role and work location, and mismatches discovered late can delay or complicate your H-1B filing.
Confirm CPT or OPT authorization covers your KLA internship scope
KLA frequently hires F-1 students into Project Engineer internships and co-ops. If your CPT or OPT authorization is tied to a specific major or program, verify it covers the engineering functions in your offer letter before your start date to avoid a work authorization gap.
Start PERM preparation early if KLA pursues Green Card sponsorship
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, KLA's legal team must complete PERM recruitment before filing with DOL. That process takes several months on its own. Raise the Green Card conversation early in your employment so the timeline doesn't collide with H-1B status expiration.

Find Project Engineer at KLA JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does KLA sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, KLA sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineer roles. KLA files petitions for engineering positions that meet the USCIS specialty occupation standard, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials science. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your employer must enter you in the USCIS lottery, which runs once per fiscal year in March.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at KLA?
Applications go through KLA's careers portal, where roles are listed by product division, site location, and job family. Project Engineer openings appear across KLA's semiconductor inspection, process control, and metrology divisions. You can also browse KLA's Project Engineer listings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you prioritize roles aligned with your work authorization situation before applying directly.
Which visa types does KLA commonly use for Project Engineer roles?
KLA sponsors H-1B visas for full-time Project Engineers and uses F-1 OPT and CPT for students in co-op or internship positions. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. For longer-term employment, KLA supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process once an engineer has established tenure in the role.
What qualifications does KLA look for in Project Engineers?
KLA typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with semiconductor process equipment, yield analysis, or tool qualification is a strong differentiator. Roles in KLA's inspection and metrology divisions often require familiarity with thin-film characterization, defect review, or process integration, depending on the product line you're targeting.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at KLA?
Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes four to six months after filing, which typically happens in April for an October 1 start date. Premium processing, which KLA may offer for certain roles, reduces USCIS adjudication to about 15 business days. The full timeline also includes the Labor Condition Application certification from DOL, which takes about seven business days and must be completed before the H-1B petition is filed.
