Align your degree to semiconductor process engineering
Lam Research's Project Engineer roles require a degree directly tied to the work, typically electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or materials science. A general engineering degree without coursework in semiconductor fabrication or process integration weakens your H-1B specialty occupation case.
Target fab-adjacent sites with higher hiring volume
Lam Research hires Project Engineers across multiple U.S. sites, with heavier demand near semiconductor manufacturing hubs. Focusing your applications on locations like Fremont or Tualatin puts you closer to active process engineering teams with more open headcount.
Search open Project Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Engineer openings at Lam Research by visa type before you apply. This lets you confirm sponsorship eligibility for your specific situation before investing time in the application process.
Request LCA details before evaluating your offer
Once you have an offer, ask HR which DOL prevailing wage level they intend to file your Labor Condition Application under. Level I and Level II wages are common in hardware engineering roles and directly affect your compensation relative to local market rates.
Prepare project documentation for your Green Card case early
Lam Research sponsors Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3, both requiring PERM labor certification. Start tracking cross-functional projects, technical contributions, and any specialized process knowledge now. Specific examples strengthen your PERM job description and reduce the risk of a DOL audit.

Find Project Engineer at Lam Research JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineer roles. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given the degree requirements in fields like electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or materials science. Lam Research has an established immigration process and works with immigration counsel to support new hires who need H-1B sponsorship from initial filing through renewals.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly sponsor for Project Engineer roles?
Lam Research sponsors across several categories for Project Engineers, including H-1B, F-1 OPT and CPT, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and current status. F-1 candidates often start on OPT before transitioning to H-1B, while TN is available immediately for qualifying NAFTA-listed engineering roles.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Project Engineer roles?
Lam Research typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication processes, equipment integration, or process development is valued. For more senior Project Engineer positions, familiarity with etch, deposition, or CMP processes in a fab or equipment manufacturing environment is commonly listed in job requirements.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
You can find and filter open Project Engineer roles at Lam Research by visa sponsorship type using Migrate Mate, which is designed for international candidates who need work authorization. Once you identify a relevant role, applications are submitted through Lam Research's careers portal. Tailoring your resume to highlight semiconductor process experience and specific equipment knowledge improves your chances of clearing initial screening.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Lam Research?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're on F-1 OPT, you need to be employed and have your petition filed before your OPT expires. Lam Research's HR and immigration team will guide the filing, but you should start conversations about sponsorship early in the offer stage, not after signing, to confirm the timeline works for your authorization window.
