Align your degree to process engineering
Lam Research Operations Engineer postings consistently require a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Confirm your transcript language maps directly to semiconductor process work, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims when degree fields sound adjacent rather than specific.
Target fab-adjacent sites for faster hiring
Lam Research hires Operations Engineers near customer fab clusters in Fremont, Tualatin, and Boise. Roles tied to customer-facing field operations or tool qualification often move through headcount approval faster than corporate engineering tracks.
Browse open Operations Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Filter by Lam Research on Migrate Mate to surface active Operations Engineer listings verified for visa sponsorship, so you're applying to open requisitions rather than speculative outreach to a recruiter.
Confirm LCA wage tier before negotiating salary
Lam Research files Labor Condition Applications with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. The certified prevailing wage level for your specific job title and work location is public record and sets the floor for any offer you negotiate.
Use OPT or CPT to build tool-specific experience
Lam Research regularly hires F-1 students into co-op and intern rotations on CPT before converting them to full-time OPT. Getting hands-on time with etch or deposition equipment during school significantly strengthens your H-1B sponsorship case afterward.
Prepare documentation for third-party site work
Operations Engineers at Lam often work on-site at customer fabs under itinerant worker provisions. Make sure your employer secures a separate LCA covering each customer location before you begin work there, as USCIS treats each worksite as a distinct compliance requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Engineers?
Yes. Lam Research has a well-established history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Operations Engineers across its U.S. locations, including roles tied to field operations and process development. The company files Labor Condition Applications with DOL and submits H-1B petitions through USCIS, covering both cap-subject registrations and cap-exempt transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status.
How do I apply for Operations Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
Applications go through Lam Research's careers portal. Search by role title and filter for locations near major semiconductor manufacturing hubs. Tailor your resume to highlight specific tool experience, such as etch, CVD, or CMP systems, since Lam's hiring teams screen for platform-specific knowledge. You can also browse verified open roles with sponsorship on Migrate Mate to confirm a requisition is actively hiring before you apply.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Operations Engineer roles?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for full-time Operations Engineers. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, J-1 visa for certain training placements, and employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM petitions for long-term employees.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Operations Engineer candidates?
Most postings require a bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering. Hands-on experience with semiconductor process equipment, particularly etch, deposition, or surface preparation tools, is heavily weighted. Familiarity with statistical process control, yield analysis, and customer fab environments strengthens your application significantly. Advanced degrees can offset limited industry experience for some roles.
How do I understand the H-1B timeline if I'm targeting a role at Lam Research?
For cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, Lam Research must register you in USCIS's lottery each March for an October 1 start date. If selected, the petition is filed and adjudicated over several months, with premium processing available to shorten USCIS review to roughly 15 business days. Plan your offer negotiation timeline around the March registration window so your paperwork is ready before the deadline.
