Align your resume to Lam's process nodes
Lam Research hires heavily for etch and deposition process engineering. Tailor your resume to highlight experience with specific chemistries, equipment platforms, or technology nodes relevant to these areas rather than listing generic process engineering skills.
Document your degree field before applying
H-1B approval for Process Engineer roles requires your degree to align directly with the position's technical requirements. A degree in chemical engineering, materials science, or electrical engineering maps cleanly to Lam's specialty occupation filings. Confirm that alignment before your first interview.
Target Lam's Fremont and Tualatin campuses directly
Lam's core process engineering headcount is concentrated at its Fremont, California and Tualatin, Oregon sites. Filtering your job search by these locations surfaces active process integration and equipment engineering openings faster than a broad company-wide search.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility early
If you're on F-1 OPT, semiconductor equipment companies like Lam qualify under STEM OPT extension rules, giving you up to 24 additional months of work authorization. Confirm your degree CIP code qualifies before your initial OPT expires so there's no gap in authorization.
Browse open Process Engineer roles using Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Process Engineer openings at Lam Research by visa type, so you can identify which roles are actively sponsoring H-1B, TN, or OPT candidates before you invest time in the application process.
Understand Lam's PERM timeline if targeting a Green Card
Lam sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Process Engineers, but PERM labor certification adds significant lead time. Ask your recruiting contact early in the offer stage whether the role is eligible for Green Card sponsorship and what the expected timeline looks like for your level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Process Engineers?
Yes. Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Process Engineer roles and has a consistent track record of doing so across its U.S. sites. Process engineering positions at Lam typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related technical field such as chemical engineering, materials science, or electrical engineering.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly sponsor for Process Engineer roles?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT (including STEM extension), F-1 CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Cards at the EB-2 and EB-3 preference levels for Process Engineer positions. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose degree and job duties fall within qualifying NAFTA occupational categories. Green Card sponsorship typically follows a period of H-1B employment and involves PERM labor certification through the DOL.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Process Engineer positions?
Lam Research typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with semiconductor process equipment, including etch or deposition systems, is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with process characterization, yield analysis, or integration in a fab or equipment development environment is valued at both new graduate and experienced levels.
How do I apply for Process Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
You can find and filter open Process Engineer roles at Lam Research by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which lets you confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. Applications go through Lam's careers portal, where you'll submit your resume and complete an online profile. For international candidates, it helps to note your current visa status and work authorization timeline in your application so recruiters can assess fit early.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship from Lam Research?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for approved petitions. If you're on F-1 OPT when Lam extends an offer, your OPT and any STEM extension must bridge you through that timeline. Start conversations with your Lam recruiter about sponsorship intent as early as the offer stage, since USCIS requires the petition to be filed months before your intended start date.
