Align your degree to semiconductor equipment domains
Lam's Product Support Engineers typically hold degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials science. A degree in a closely related field strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case and reduces USCIS scrutiny during petition review.
Target field service and applications engineering openings
Lam posts Product Support Engineer roles under several titles across wafer fabrication segments like etch, deposition, and clean. Searching across these adjacent titles increases your chances of finding active requisitions that match your process background.
Front-load your resume with equipment and process specifics
Hiring managers for this role look for hands-on experience with semiconductor capital equipment, vacuum systems, or process modules. Generic engineering resumes get filtered out. Name the specific tools, chemistries, or fab environments you have worked in.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility before your first interview
Electrical and mechanical engineering degrees qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of work authorization on F-1. Confirm your degree CIP code with your DSO before discussing timelines with a Lam recruiter.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Lam Research openings
Product Support Engineer postings at Lam move quickly and are spread across multiple locations and fab segments. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Lam Research roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you are applying to verified openings rather than guessing from general job boards.

Find Product Support Engineer at Lam Research JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Product Support Engineers?
Yes. Lam Research has a well-established history of sponsoring H-1B petitions for Product Support Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation given its requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering or scientific field. Lam's in-house immigration team handles petition filings, so the process is typically structured rather than ad hoc.
How do I apply for Product Support Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
Applications go through Lam Research's careers portal at lamresearch.com. Roles are posted by product segment and region, so search across etch, deposition, and clean product lines. You can also browse verified Lam Research openings filtered by visa sponsorship availability on Migrate Mate, which helps you confirm sponsorship eligibility before you apply.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Product Support Engineers?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for this role. They also support F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering degrees, J-1 for certain training placements, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured engineers pursuing permanent residence.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Product Support Engineer roles?
Most postings require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or materials science. Hands-on experience with semiconductor capital equipment, process modules, or vacuum systems is strongly preferred. Field service experience and the ability to work at customer fab sites are common requirements. Advanced degrees can offset limited industry experience for some positions.
How do I think about the timeline from offer to work authorization for this role?
If you are on F-1 OPT, you can typically start within weeks of an offer. For H-1B cap-subject cases, Lam would file in April for an October 1 start, meaning a gap of up to six months is possible. USCIS premium processing can reduce adjudication to roughly two to three weeks once filed, which Lam commonly uses to minimize uncertainty for candidates.
