Align your research expertise to Lam's roadmap
Lam Research hires Research Managers to lead work in specific process modules like plasma etch or atomic layer deposition. Frame your CV around published research, patents, or process development outcomes in those domains, not general semiconductor experience.
Target roles across multiple Lam sites
Lam Research operates major R&D facilities in Fremont, Tualatin, and Gloucester. Research Manager openings are not always posted simultaneously across all sites, so search each location separately to avoid missing active requisitions in your specialty.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS requires the H-1B petition to demonstrate that a Research Manager role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations, and documentation of your technical research scope before your employer's immigration counsel requests them.
Anticipate PERM if you want permanent residence
Lam has a history of sponsoring EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for research staff. The DOL PERM labor certification process can take a year or more before the I-140 petition is filed, so discuss long-term sponsorship intentions with your recruiter during the offer process.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active openings efficiently
Research Manager roles at Lam Research open and close quickly given their technical specificity. Use Migrate Mate to filter Lam Research postings by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to roles where your immigration situation is already a fit.

Find Research Manager at Lam Research JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Research Managers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Research Manager positions. Research roles in semiconductor process development are well-established as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, which makes H-1B petitions for these positions relatively straightforward to support. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, timing your application around the annual April filing window is essential.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Research Manager roles?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for research-oriented positions, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residence. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying research or engineering roles. F-1 OPT is a common entry point for recent graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Research Manager positions?
Most Research Manager roles at Lam require a graduate degree, typically a Master's or Ph.D., in materials science, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field. Relevant process expertise in etch, deposition, or metrology is expected alongside prior team leadership or project management experience in an R&D or semiconductor manufacturing environment.
How do I apply for Research Manager jobs at Lam Research?
You can apply directly through Lam Research's careers portal, where roles are listed by site and function. To find openings that already align with your visa type, use Migrate Mate to filter Lam Research Research Manager postings by sponsorship category. Tailoring your application to specific process modules Lam is hiring for in that region increases your chances of passing initial screening.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Lam Research?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, Lam Research would need to register you in the USCIS lottery in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can begin work sooner and transition to H-1B in the next cycle. Build at least six to eight months of buffer between your offer acceptance and your intended start date to account for filing and approval timelines.
