Focus on Green Card-eligible roles
MLS's sponsorship activity skews toward permanent residency rather than temporary work visas. Target roles in sports analytics, technology, business operations, and league administration where employers are more likely to support EB-2 or EB-3 pathways for long-term hires.
Target corporate functions, not just the pitch
MLS sponsorship tends to flow through league headquarters and affiliated business units rather than on-field roles. Departments like data science, software engineering, marketing, and finance are stronger targets for internationally sponsored positions than coaching or athletic staff.
Understand the TN visa option if you're Canadian or Mexican
MLS has sponsored TN visas, which offer a faster, lottery-free path for Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying roles like engineers or accountants. If you hold citizenship in either country, highlight TN eligibility early in conversations with MLS recruiters.
Leverage OPT and CPT as an entry point
MLS has hired international students through F-1 OPT and CPT. Internships and entry-level roles in sports business, data, or digital media can serve as a foot in the door before pursuing long-term sponsorship through a permanent residency pathway.
Research open roles with verified sponsorship history
Not every MLS job posting will mention visa sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your applications on roles where MLS has a demonstrated record of supporting international candidates.
Position yourself for specialized, hard-to-fill roles
Sports organizations are most likely to sponsor visas when domestic candidates are scarce. Roles requiring niche skills in soccer analytics, international player relations, or multilingual fan engagement give you the strongest case for MLS to invest in sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Major League Soccer sponsor H-1B visas?
Based on available sponsorship data, MLS's visa activity has centered on Green Card sponsorship rather than H-1B visa petitions. If you're targeting MLS and require H-1B sponsorship specifically, it's worth reaching out directly to their recruiting team to confirm current hiring posture, as sponsorship availability can shift depending on the role and department.
What visa types does Major League Soccer sponsor?
MLS has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas. Their sponsorship profile is weighted toward permanent residency pathways, which reflects a preference for retaining international talent long-term rather than temporary visa arrangements. TN sponsorship makes MLS a particularly relevant target for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying occupations.
Which roles at Major League Soccer are most likely to be sponsored?
Sponsorship at MLS tends to concentrate in corporate and technical functions rather than on-field or athletic roles. Positions in data analytics, software engineering, digital product, marketing, and league operations have historically aligned with the visa categories MLS sponsors. Roles requiring specialized expertise or multilingual skills in international markets can also strengthen your candidacy for sponsorship consideration.
How do I find open jobs at Major League Soccer that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search MLS job openings filtered by real sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which roles are open to international candidates. Beyond that, monitor MLS's careers page directly and target roles in departments with a track record of supporting Green Card or TN processes. Tailoring your application to highlight in-demand, specialized skills improves your chances of sponsorship support.
How do I approach the MLS application process as an international candidate?
Start by identifying roles that align with MLS's sponsorship history, particularly in technical or corporate functions. Be transparent about your work authorization status early in the process, and where relevant, highlight visa categories you're already eligible for, such as TN or OPT. If you're aiming for a Green Card pathway, demonstrating long-term value and specialized expertise in your field gives MLS a clear business case to invest in sponsorship.
