McDonald’s® company-owned and independent Owner-Operator restaurants are staffed by great people, and right now we’re looking for more of them. People interested in satisfying careers with competitive benefits. People interested in growing and advancing. People with lots to offer. People like you. If you’re interested (and we sure hope you are), let’s get together.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The General Manager is responsible for running a profitable restaurant and for making sure the restaurant meets McDonald’s critical customer standards of Quality, Service, and Cleanliness. These standards are high, so this is a big job! The General Manager works with his/her leader to set the restaurant’s goals and creates a plan to achieve the goals.
To meet restaurant goals, the General Manager doesn’t work alone. He or she leads a team of Department Managers that has specific responsibilities in the restaurant. This means helping the Department Managers to set their own goals, following up on their progress, and providing coaching and direction to improve their Departments. By improving the Departments, the restaurant improves!
The General Manager may also be responsible for hiring and developing Department and Shift Managers to make sure that the restaurant has the right team to lead into the future.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be Servsafe certified and attended McDonald’s training classes.
This job posting is for a position in a restaurant owned and operated by an independent franchisee, not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC. This means the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, is alone responsible for all employment related matters in the restaurant including, among other things, setting any requirements for this job and all decisions concerning hiring, firing, discipline, supervisions, staffing and scheduling. McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC will not receive a copy of any application you submit for this job posting and will have no control over whether you receive an interview and/or are ultimately hired, does not control and is not responsible for the employment policies and practices of independent franchisees, and does not employ independent franchisees’ employees. If you are hired for this job posting, the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, will be your employer.
This job posting contains some general information about what it is like to work in a McDonald’s restaurant, but is not a complete job description. People who work in a McDonald’s restaurant perform a number of different tasks every day, and this posting does not list all of the essential functions of the job.
McDonald’s is a drug free environment as this is a safety sensitive position.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding People Operations Manager Jobs at McDonald's Jobs
Frame your HR credentials for U.S. specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires People Operations roles to qualify as specialty occupations, meaning your degree must directly relate to the position. A degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or Business Administration strengthens your petition more than a general management background.
Target McDonald's corporate and regional HR teams
McDonald's staffing structure separates corporate People Operations from field HR roles. Corporate and regional offices are more likely to sponsor visas than franchise-level positions, so filter your applications to McDonald's corporate-posted roles, not franchise operator listings.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open People Operations roles at McDonald's
McDonald's posts People Operations Manager openings across multiple locations at once, and sponsorship-eligible roles can disappear quickly. Use Migrate Mate to track and filter active McDonald's HR postings by visa type so you're applying before roles close.
Understand McDonald's LCA filing requirements before your offer
Before McDonald's can file your H-1B petition, they must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL certifying your wage meets the prevailing rate for your metro area. Knowing this step exists helps you ask the right questions during offer negotiation and avoids surprises in the timeline.
Align your start date with the H-1B cap and lottery calendar
If your sponsorship path runs through the H-1B cap, McDonald's can only file in April for an October 1 start. Build your interview timeline so you have an offer in hand before March registration opens, or explore cap-exempt alternatives like OPT extension bridging.
Highlight multi-unit or high-volume workforce experience in your application
McDonald's People Operations teams manage workforce programs across thousands of locations. Candidates who can demonstrate experience with large hourly workforces, HRIS platforms, or labor compliance across multiple sites position themselves as directly relevant to McDonald's operational complexity.

Find People Operations Manager at McDonald's JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for People Operations Managers?
Yes, McDonald's sponsors H-1B visas for People Operations Manager roles at the corporate and regional level. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Sponsorship is more common for corporate-posted roles than for positions tied to individual franchise operators, so targeting McDonald's corporate career portal directly is the most reliable approach.
Which visa types are commonly used for People Operations Manager roles at McDonald's?
McDonald's sponsors several visa categories for People Operations Manager positions, including H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying HR roles), F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and employment-based Green Card pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage. TN is often the fastest path for eligible candidates since it bypasses the H-1B lottery.
How do I apply for People Operations Manager jobs at McDonald's?
Applications go through McDonald's corporate careers portal. Roles are posted at the corporate, regional, and market level, so search specifically for 'People Operations Manager' rather than browsing general HR categories. Migrate Mate also aggregates McDonald's visa-sponsorship-eligible HR postings in one place, which makes it easier to identify which open roles are actively sponsoring. Tailor your resume to reflect large-scale workforce management and HRIS experience.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for People Operations Manager candidates?
McDonald's typically expects a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field for People Operations Manager roles. Beyond the degree, relevant experience managing HR programs for large or distributed workforces carries significant weight. Familiarity with labor compliance, workforce analytics, and HRIS platforms is commonly referenced in McDonald's People Operations job postings. For H-1B purposes, your degree field must align directly with the specific role duties.
How do I plan my timeline if McDonald's offers me H-1B sponsorship?
If your role is subject to the H-1B cap, McDonald's must register you in the annual USCIS lottery, which opens in March for an October 1 start date. That means your offer needs to be finalized well before March. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, you may be able to begin working before October 1 and use the cap-gap provision to maintain status through your OPT extension while the petition is pending.
