Frame Your Operations Experience for QSR Scale
McDonald's Business Operations Managers oversee multi-unit or regional performance, so translate your background into metrics like throughput, labor efficiency, and cost control. Highlight experience managing high-volume, shift-based environments rather than corporate office operations.
Target Corporate and Field Operations Postings Separately
McDonald's distinguishes between corporate market roles and field operations positions. Corporate postings in Chicago headquarters are more likely to carry H-1B sponsorship, while field-based roles tied to franchise regions vary. Filter your search by location and reporting structure before applying.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Confirmed Openings
Not every McDonald's Business Operations Manager posting specifies visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles where McDonald's has an active sponsorship track record, so you're only investing time in applications with a realistic path to authorization.
Align Your Degree Field to Specialty Occupation Standards
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations, meaning your degree must relate directly to the position. For operations management, a degree in business administration, supply chain, or industrial engineering strengthens the case far more than a general studies background.
Ask About LCA Filing Timelines Before Accepting an Offer
McDonald's must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. Confirm with your recruiter or HR contact when that process typically starts relative to your target start date, since LCA certification alone can take several weeks.
Position F-1 OPT as a Bridge Into a Permanent Role
If you're on F-1 OPT, McDonald's has shown willingness to bring operations talent in during that window and convert to H-1B sponsorship. Be explicit in interviews that you're approaching this as a long-term career move, not a temporary placement, to increase your chances of sponsorship commitment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations Managers?
Yes, McDonald's sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations Manager roles, particularly for corporate and regional positions. Sponsorship is more consistently available through corporate headquarters than through franchise-operated locations, which are independently owned and not bound by McDonald's corporate HR policies. If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, focus your applications on roles listed directly by McDonald's Corporation rather than franchisee postings.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Operations Manager roles at McDonald's?
McDonald's supports several visa pathways for Business Operations Managers. H-1B is the most common for degree-holding professionals. F-1 OPT and CPT are used to bring in early-career talent from U.S. universities. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management roles. For longer-term paths, McDonald's has also filed EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for operations professionals demonstrating sustained performance.
What qualifications and experience does McDonald's expect for a Business Operations Manager?
McDonald's typically looks for a bachelor's degree in business, operations management, supply chain, or a related field. Prior experience in multi-unit management, franchise operations, or high-volume food service is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with P&L oversight, labor scheduling systems, and operational KPIs used in quick-service restaurant environments will make your application more competitive than general management experience alone.
How do I apply for Business Operations Manager jobs at McDonald's?
You can apply directly through McDonald's careers portal, but not all postings indicate whether visa sponsorship is available. For a faster way to identify sponsorship-friendly openings, browse Migrate Mate, which aggregates Business Operations Manager roles at McDonald's and filters for positions with a documented sponsorship history. Tailor your resume to emphasize multi-unit operations, cost management, and team leadership before submitting.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at McDonald's?
H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap, with USCIS accepting registrations in March for an October 1 start date. That means you need an offer and a committed sponsor by late February at the latest. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date and whether STEM OPT extension applies to your degree, since that can give you additional runway while McDonald's completes the H-1B filing process.
