Certify trade credentials before applying
EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling and OSHA safety credentials are common requirements for McDonald's Maintenance roles. Having these documented before you apply removes a frequent hiring bottleneck and signals you're ready to work without additional training.
Target corporate locations over franchises
McDonald's corporate-owned restaurants and facilities teams have dedicated HR infrastructure to process visa sponsorship. Franchise operators typically lack the legal and payroll resources to file H-1B or PERM petitions, so filtering your applications accordingly saves significant time.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring Maintenance roles
Search Migrate Mate and filter by role type and visa category to surface Maintenance openings at McDonald's where sponsorship is confirmed. This cuts out the guesswork of contacting locations that won't file on your behalf.
Align your resume to DOL prevailing wage categories
McDonald's Maintenance positions often fall under DOL wage levels tied to specific job zones. Framing your experience around the skills and duties that match the prevailing wage level for your target role strengthens both the LCA filing and your offer negotiation.
Clarify OPT or CPT scope during the interview stage
F-1 students in Maintenance-related programs sometimes assume any hands-on role qualifies for CPT or OPT. Confirm with your Designated School Official that the specific McDonald's Maintenance duties align with your program's field of study before accepting an offer.
Ask about PERM timing before signing an offer letter
If you're targeting a Green Card pathway through McDonald's, PERM labor certification can take a year or more before an I-140 is even filed. Get clarity on whether the role is budgeted for PERM sponsorship and what the expected timeline looks like from your start date.

Find Maintenance at McDonald's JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenances?
McDonald's does sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance roles, primarily through its corporate operations rather than franchise locations. Sponsorship is more common for specialized positions involving HVAC systems, refrigeration, or facilities management at scale. Your best path is targeting corporate job postings directly and confirming sponsorship eligibility during the recruiter screening call before investing time in the application process.
How do I apply for Maintenance jobs at McDonald's?
Apply through McDonald's corporate careers portal and filter for Maintenance or Facilities roles. Look for postings that reference relocation support or visa sponsorship in the job description. If a posting is silent on sponsorship, raise it early in the recruiter conversation. Migrate Mate aggregates sponsoring Maintenance roles at McDonald's so you can identify confirmed opportunities without sorting through listings one by one.
Which visa types are commonly used for Maintenance roles at McDonald's?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Maintenance professionals at McDonald's, particularly for roles requiring specialized technical knowledge. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Maintenance occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT can cover early-career roles if the work aligns with your field of study. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways are available for longer-term sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for sponsored Maintenance roles?
McDonald's typically looks for hands-on experience in commercial facilities or food service equipment repair, including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing systems. EPA 608 certification is often required for roles involving refrigerant handling. For H-1B sponsorship, the position generally needs to qualify as a specialty occupation, which means a relevant technical degree or equivalent experience is usually expected alongside the trade credentials.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a McDonald's Maintenance role?
For H-1B, USCIS standard processing runs several months and the cap-subject lottery only opens once a year, so timing your offer relative to the April filing window is critical. TN visas can be obtained at the border in a single day for qualifying Canadian nationals. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship takes a year or more before the I-140 petition stage. Confirm which visa type applies to your role and plan your start date accordingly.
