If you’re interested (and we sure hope you are), let’s get together.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The General Manager is responsible for running a profitable restaurant and for making sure the restaurant meets McDonald’s critical customer standards of Quality, Service, and Cleanliness. These standards are high, so this is a big job! The General Manager works with his/her leader to set the restaurant’s goals and creates a plan to achieve the goals.
To meet restaurant goals, the General Manager doesn’t work alone. He or she leads a team of Department Managers that has specific responsibilities in the restaurant. By improving the Departments, the restaurant improves!
The General Manager may also be responsible for hiring and developing Department and Shift Managers to make sure that the restaurant has the right team to lead into the future.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be Servsafe certified and attended McDonald’s training classes.
This job posting is for a position in a restaurant owned and operated by an independent franchisee, not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC. This means the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, is alone responsible for all employment related matters in the restaurant including, among other things, setting any requirements for this job and all decisions concerning hiring, firing, discipline, supervisions, staffing and scheduling. McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC will not receive a copy of any application you submit for this job posting and will have no control over whether you receive an interview and/or are ultimately hired, does not control and is not responsible for the employment policies and practices of independent franchisees, and does not employ independent franchisees’ employees. If you are hired for this job posting, the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, will be your employer.
This job posting contains some general information about what it is like to work in a McDonald’s restaurant, but is not a complete job description. Frame Your Experience Around Franchise Operations
McDonald's Business Operations roles frequently support its franchise model. Tailor your resume to highlight experience with multi-unit oversight, franchisee relations, or systemwide process improvement. Hiring managers are looking for candidates who understand scale and standardization.
Target Corporate Roles Over Restaurant Management
Visa sponsorship at McDonald's is concentrated in corporate and regional Business Operations functions, not restaurant-level management. Focus your search on roles tied to supply chain, strategy, or field operations, where the company is more likely to initiate an H-1B petition.
Understand How TN Status Applies Here
If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN status is a faster path into a Business Operations role. Management consultant and industrial engineer classifications are the most commonly used TN categories for operations work. Confirm the role title maps cleanly to a qualifying USMCA occupation before accepting an offer.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent Before Final Interviews
McDonald's uses a structured hiring process with multiple interview rounds. Raise visa sponsorship during the offer-stage conversation with HR, not mid-process with the hiring manager. Knowing whether they'll file H-1B cap-subject or cap-exempt before you sign saves you from a costly timeline mismatch.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Roles Efficiently
Business Operations openings at McDonald's are spread across corporate, regional, and field functions and don't always surface through general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified sponsorship-eligible Business Operations roles at McDonald's in one place.
Account for PERM Timing If You're Thinking Long Term
If McDonald's indicates willingness to support a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process with DOL typically adds 12 to 24 months before an I-140 can be filed. Factor this into your H-1B renewal calendar so your status doesn't lapse mid-process.

Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations?
Yes. McDonald's has an established track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for corporate and regional Business Operations roles. Sponsorship is most common for positions in supply chain, franchise systems, and strategy functions. Restaurant-level operations roles are generally not sponsored. Confirm sponsorship eligibility directly with McDonald's HR during the offer stage, as not every Business Operations posting qualifies.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at McDonald's?
Applications go through McDonald's careers portal. You can also find verified sponsorship-eligible Business Operations roles at McDonald's on Migrate Mate, which filters for positions open to visa holders. Target corporate and regional functions rather than restaurant operations, and tailor your application to emphasize multi-unit process experience, franchise systems knowledge, or supply chain expertise relevant to a large-scale food service operation.
Which visa types does McDonald's use for Business Operations roles?
McDonald's sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation Business Operations roles and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying positions. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in roles that align with USMCA-listed occupations such as management consultant or industrial engineer. For longer-term sponsorship, McDonald's has filed EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for operations professionals.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for sponsored Business Operations roles?
Most sponsored Business Operations roles at McDonald's require a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, operations management, or a related field. For H-1B eligibility, the degree must directly relate to the duties of the role. McDonald's tends to prioritize candidates with experience in large-scale or multi-unit environments, franchise operations, or process improvement in consumer-facing industries like food and beverage or retail.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a McDonald's Business Operations offer?
For H-1B sponsorship, McDonald's must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting the I-129 petition to USCIS. Standard processing runs three to six months. If you need faster authorization, premium processing through USCIS cuts the adjudication window to 15 business days for an additional fee. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can begin work immediately while sponsorship is pending, provided your OPT authorization is current.
