Frame your Food & Beverage credentials clearly
McDonald's Department Manager roles require demonstrated experience leading shifts, managing labor costs, and meeting food safety standards. Document your food service management credentials, any ServSafe or equivalent certifications, and measurable outcomes like cost reduction or team retention before applying.
Target corporate-owned locations over franchises
Franchise operators run independent businesses and rarely have the HR infrastructure to file H-1B or PERM petitions. Corporate-owned McDonald's locations, especially in major metro markets, are where sponsored Department Manager openings are most likely to originate.
Search sponsored openings through Migrate Mate
Filter Department Manager roles at McDonald's by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface only positions tied to active sponsorship. This cuts out franchise postings that look identical but will not support a work visa petition.
Understand how EB-3 sponsorship fits this role
Department Manager positions at McDonald's can qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, but the employer must complete PERM labor certification through DOL first. That process can take 12 to 18 months, so raise green card pathway intent early in conversations with the hiring team.
Use OPT or CPT to build your internal track record
If you're on F-1 status, starting in an hourly or assistant manager role during CPT or OPT gives McDonald's corporate a direct path to sponsoring you for an H-1B once you step into a full Department Manager position before your authorized period ends.
Prepare for the H-1B specialty occupation argument
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations needing at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. For a Department Manager role in Food & Beverage, your offer letter and employer support documents should tie the position to business management, hospitality, or operations coursework, not just supervisory duties.

Find Department Manager at McDonald's JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Department Managers?
Yes, McDonald's corporate entity does sponsor H-1B visas for Department Manager roles, though sponsorship is concentrated at corporate-owned locations rather than franchise operations. Franchise owners are independent businesses and typically do not file H-1B petitions. If sponsorship is a requirement, confirm whether the specific location is corporate-owned before advancing in the hiring process.
How do I apply for Department Manager jobs at McDonald's?
Applications go through McDonald's corporate careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. For sponsored positions specifically, Migrate Mate lists Department Manager openings at McDonald's with visa type filters so you can identify corporate-owned locations with a sponsorship track record before applying directly. Tailor your application to highlight shift management, food safety compliance, and labor cost control.
Which visa types are commonly used for Department Manager roles at McDonald's?
McDonald's corporate has sponsored H-1B visas, supported F-1 OPT and CPT for early-career candidates, and filed EB-2 and EB-3 green card petitions for longer-tenure managers. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management roles. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree, and whether you're targeting a temporary or permanent pathway.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for a sponsored Department Manager role?
McDonald's Department Manager roles typically require prior supervisory experience in food service, retail, or a comparable high-volume environment. A bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, or a related field strengthens both your candidacy and any H-1B specialty occupation argument. Food safety certifications such as ServSafe and measurable experience managing team performance and operational KPIs are commonly expected.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for this role?
For H-1B sponsorship, factor in the April lottery registration window and a start date no earlier than October 1 if selected. PERM-based green card sponsorship through DOL takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives the petition. Building your timeline around these milestones from the point of offer acceptance, rather than after onboarding, reduces the risk of gaps in work authorization.
