Align Your Certifications to Microsoft's Stack
Microsoft IT Support roles frequently require hands-on experience with Azure Active Directory, Intune, and Microsoft 365 endpoint management. Holding Microsoft certifications like MS-900 or MD-102 before applying signals you can contribute immediately and reduces onboarding friction for hiring teams.
Target Internal Mobility After an Initial Offer
Microsoft commonly transfers employees between business units once they're onboarded. If you receive an offer in a adjacent support function, accepting it positions you to move into your target IT Support team within 12 to 18 months while your sponsorship remains intact.
Search Visa-Confirmed IT Support Openings on Migrate Mate
Filter IT Support postings by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface only Microsoft roles with confirmed sponsorship history. This eliminates roles that list IT Support duties but are classified under contract or staffing arrangements that typically exclude visa filing.
Clarify Cap-Subject Status Before Accepting an Offer
If you're currently on OPT or CPT, your H-1B petition will be cap-subject and tied to the October 1 start date. Ask your Microsoft recruiter early whether the role qualifies for premium processing so USCIS adjudicates your I-129 within 15 business days and you know your status before resigning any current position.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Nexus Statement
DOL and USCIS scrutinize IT Support roles more than software engineering positions when assessing specialty occupation status. Document how your role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as information systems or computer science, rather than general technical aptitude, before your LCA is filed.
Apply During Microsoft's Early Fiscal Year Hiring Windows
Microsoft's fiscal year starts in July, and headcount approvals typically release new IT Support requisitions in late summer and autumn. Applying in August through October gives you the best chance of reaching an offer stage with enough lead time for USCIS petition preparation before the next cap season.

Find IT Support at Microsoft JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor H-1B visas for IT Support roles?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for IT Support positions. The company has an established immigration program that handles petition preparation and filing directly. Because IT Support roles must qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, your application will need to demonstrate that the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, such as information systems, computer science, or a closely aligned discipline.
Which visa types does Microsoft typically sponsor for IT Support positions?
Microsoft sponsors several nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories for IT Support roles, including the H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, and employment-based Green Card pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and how your role is classified internally. Australian applicants on E-3 status often find this pathway faster since it has no lottery and can be renewed indefinitely.
What qualifications does Microsoft expect for IT Support roles they'll sponsor?
Microsoft typically expects a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, information technology, or a closely related field for sponsored IT Support positions. Practical experience with Microsoft enterprise tools, including Azure AD, Intune, and Microsoft 365, carries significant weight. Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft's own MD-102, or ITIL Foundation often strengthen your candidacy, particularly for roles supporting large-scale corporate or cloud infrastructure environments.
How do I apply for IT Support jobs at Microsoft?
Start by browsing open IT Support roles at Microsoft on Migrate Mate, which filters postings by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm the role aligns with your status before applying. Once you identify a fit, apply through Microsoft's careers portal and tailor your resume to reflect experience with their technology stack. If you progress to an offer, Microsoft's in-house immigration team coordinates with you directly on LCA filing with DOL and the subsequent USCIS petition.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at Microsoft for IT Support hires?
Timeline depends on your visa category. For H-1B cap-subject petitions, expect the process to span from lottery registration in March through an October 1 start date. E-3 and H-1B1 petitions move faster since they're not lottery-dependent and consular processing often completes within a few weeks after your LCA is certified by DOL. Microsoft's immigration team typically initiates paperwork well before your intended start date, but requesting premium processing from USCIS reduces adjudication to 15 business days if timing is tight.
