Align your credentials to Microsoft's Finance stack
Microsoft Finance roles frequently require experience with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or Power BI for financial reporting. Demonstrating hands-on proficiency with these tools in your resume signals you're ready to contribute without an extended ramp-up period.
Target roles that map to specialty occupation criteria
USCIS requires H-1B positions to qualify as specialty occupations. Finance analyst and FP&A roles tied to a specific bachelor's degree field fare better than generalist titles, so prioritize job postings that list a degree requirement in finance, accounting, or economics.
Research Microsoft's LCA filings before you apply
The DOL's OFLC disclosure database shows prevailing wage levels Microsoft has certified for Finance roles by location. Knowing whether your target role is classified at Level I or Level II helps you frame salary expectations and spot roles that reflect genuine sponsorship intent.
Factor in fiscal-year hiring cycles when timing applications
Microsoft's fiscal year runs July through June. Finance headcount approvals often accelerate in the second half of the fiscal year. Applying between January and April puts you in the window when hiring managers have confirmed budget and H-1B cap season filing aligns with April 1 submissions.
Clarify visa pathway options during the offer stage
Microsoft sponsors multiple visa categories for Finance, including H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1. If you're Australian or from a country with an H-1B1 treaty, ask the recruiter explicitly about those pathways. E-3 and H-1B1 are cap-exempt, which removes lottery risk entirely.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Finance roles at Microsoft
Filtering by sponsor history and visa type is faster than manually scanning job boards. Migrate Mate lets you surface Finance openings at Microsoft that are actively associated with sponsorship, so you can focus applications on positions where the pathway is already established.

Find Finance at Microsoft JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor H-1B visas for Finance roles?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for Finance positions including FP&A, corporate accounting, and treasury roles. The company files petitions each April for the annual H-1B cap. Finance roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as finance, accounting, or economics.
How do I apply for Finance jobs at Microsoft?
Applications go through Microsoft's careers portal at careers.microsoft.com. Search by function and filter for Finance. Tailor your resume to the specific role's requirements, highlighting quantitative skills and any enterprise financial tools you've used. You can also browse Finance openings at Microsoft that are associated with visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by sponsor history and visa type.
Which visa types does Microsoft use for Finance roles?
Microsoft sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visas for Finance positions, as well as immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term permanent residence pathways. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. Candidates from Singapore or Chile may qualify for the H-1B1 under their respective trade agreements.
What qualifications does Microsoft expect for Finance roles?
Most Finance positions at Microsoft require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, with a CPA or CFA valued for accounting and investment-facing roles. Practical experience with financial modeling, variance analysis, and enterprise systems like SAP or Dynamics is consistently listed across postings. Senior roles typically require several years of industry experience, often within technology or a similarly complex commercial environment.
How do I think about the visa sponsorship timeline for a Microsoft Finance role?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file an H-1B petition by April 1 for employment starting October 1. That means your offer and USCIS registration typically need to be in place by early March. E-3 and H-1B1 categories have no annual cap, so those can be filed year-round with processing times generally running two to four months through USCIS regular service, or faster with premium processing.
