Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Embedded Software Engineer Jobs at Qualcomm Jobs
Align Your Portfolio to Qualcomm's Stack
Qualcomm's embedded roles often require hands-on experience with RTOS environments, low-level drivers, and multimedia subsystems. Tailor your resume and GitHub portfolio to reflect these specifics before applying, since generic embedded experience is harder to evaluate against their role requirements.
Target Roles That Match Your Degree Field
For H-1B sponsorship, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation tied to your degree field. Qualcomm embeds software engineers into highly specialized firmware and DSP teams, so a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science directly supports that specialty occupation determination.
Start OPT Applications Before Your Final Semester
USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your graduation date. If you're targeting a full-time embedded role at Qualcomm post-graduation, submit your EAD application early to avoid a gap between your start date and your work authorization.
Ask About PERM Sponsorship Timelines During Negotiation
Qualcomm sponsors Green Cards through PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 categories. At the offer stage, ask your recruiter when PERM sponsorship typically begins for engineers in your team. DOL's PERM process can take a year or more before you receive an approved labor certification.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Qualcomm Openings
Many embedded roles at Qualcomm are buried across multiple job boards with inconsistent sponsorship language. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Qualcomm Embedded Software Engineer positions filtered by your visa type, so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Verify Your I-94 Status Before Each Role Transition
If you're changing teams internally or moving from a contractor position to a full-time Qualcomm role, your I-94 admission record and authorized stay period need to reflect your current status. Check your I-94 through the CBP portal before your first day in any new position.

Find Embedded Software Engineer at Qualcomm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Embedded Software Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Embedded Software Engineers. The company has an established immigration program that handles petitions across nonimmigrant categories including H-1B and H-1B1. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an offer is accepted, and Qualcomm works with immigration counsel to file the petition. If you're subject to the H-1B lottery, the April cap-subject filing window applies.
How do I apply for Embedded Software Engineer jobs at Qualcomm?
Applications go through Qualcomm's careers portal at qualcomm.com/careers. Filter by job function and location to find embedded software openings. You can also browse verified Qualcomm Embedded Software Engineer roles filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which removes the guesswork of identifying which postings actively support sponsorship for your specific work authorization category.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Embedded Software Engineer roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for nonimmigrant work authorization, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning into full-time roles. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. For permanent residence, Qualcomm uses PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship for engineers who have been with the company for a qualifying period.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Embedded Software Engineer roles?
Most embedded software roles at Qualcomm require a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science. Hands-on experience with RTOS platforms, device driver development, or multimedia and modem firmware is typically expected. Senior positions often require demonstrated experience with low-level system debugging, profiling tools, and cross-functional collaboration with hardware design teams.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Qualcomm Embedded Software Engineer position?
Timeline depends on your visa category. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS can take up to 90 days, so apply early. H-1B standard processing takes three to six months after the April lottery, while premium processing shortens adjudication to 15 business days. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship involves DOL labor certification, which typically takes one to two years before the I-140 petition stage.
