Align your portfolio to Qualcomm's chipset domains
Qualcomm prioritizes embedded work tied to Snapdragon, modem firmware, and RTOS environments. Before applying, build out or highlight projects involving bare-metal programming, power management, or BSP development so your credentials map directly to their engineering stack.
Target Qualcomm's university recruiting pipeline early
Qualcomm recruits embedded engineers through CPT and OPT channels well before graduation. If you're on F-1 status, engage their campus programs in your penultimate semester so a full-time offer and OPT start date can align without a gap in authorized work.
Clarify H-1B cap timing before accepting any offer
If you're not cap-exempt and your OPT ends before October 1, confirm whether Qualcomm will file a cap-gap extension to bridge your status. USCIS allows continued work authorization during cap-gap, but you need the I-797 receipt notice in hand before your OPT EAD expires.
Understand how TN status fits embedded engineering roles
Canadian and Mexican engineers qualifying under TN can enter as Computer Systems Analysts or Engineers under USMCA. Qualcomm has hired TN workers in embedded roles, but your job duties must map cleanly to a listed TN occupation category or a border officer can deny entry.
Plan for PERM if long-term U.S. residency is your goal
Qualcomm sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineers in long-term roles. PERM requires DOL to certify no qualified U.S. workers were available, a process that takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives your I-140. Start that conversation with your team early in your H-1B period.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Qualcomm embedded roles
Qualcomm posts embedded positions across multiple locations and business units simultaneously, which makes it hard to track openings that explicitly support sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter confirmed visa-sponsoring Qualcomm roles so you're applying where international candidates are genuinely considered.

Find Embedded Systems Engineer at Qualcomm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Embedded Systems Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Embedded Systems Engineers and has a well-documented track record across this function. The company files both cap-subject and cap-exempt petitions depending on the hiring situation. If you're transitioning from OPT, Qualcomm's immigration team typically coordinates filing timelines to minimize gaps in your work authorization.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Embedded Systems Engineer roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for this role. H-1B is most common for full-time hires. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and recent graduates. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose duties align with eligible USMCA occupation categories.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Embedded Systems Engineer positions?
Qualcomm typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Hands-on experience with RTOS platforms, low-level C or C++ programming, hardware-software interfacing, and debugging tools like JTAG or oscilloscopes strengthens your application considerably. Advanced roles in modem or chipset firmware often prefer candidates with prior SoC or platform bring-up experience.
How do I apply for Embedded Systems Engineer jobs at Qualcomm?
You can browse and apply for Embedded Systems Engineer roles at Qualcomm directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for positions that support visa sponsorship. On Qualcomm's own careers portal, look for postings that explicitly mention sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your resume to reflect firmware, RTOS, or driver development experience, since those are the terms Qualcomm's recruiters screen for in this function.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Qualcomm?
From offer acceptance to approved H-1B status, plan for at least six to nine months if you're going through the annual lottery. USCIS opens H-1B registration in March, with cap-subject approvals effective October 1. Qualcomm can request premium processing to get a decision within 15 business days after selection, which most employers use to reduce uncertainty during onboarding planning.
