Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Program Director roles at Qualcomm require a directly related degree field, not just a bachelor's in any discipline. Make sure your transcripts and any credential evaluations clearly map your education to program management or a relevant engineering or media technology field.
Target Qualcomm's media partnerships division specifically
Qualcomm's media and entertainment work spans content delivery, XR platforms, and streaming partnerships. Program Directors in this space own vendor relationships and technical roadmaps, so framing your resume around cross-functional delivery in media technology significantly improves your targeting.
Research which visa category fits your timeline
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT across Program Director roles. If your OPT expiration falls before the next H-1B cap season, confirm whether your role qualifies for cap-exempt filing through a related research affiliate or plan your start date around the April lottery.
Clarify the LCA prevailing wage tier during offer negotiation
Qualcomm files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition can proceed. The offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for your location and level. Ask your recruiter which wage level the role is classified at before signing, since reclassification after filing is complex.
Browse verified sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
To find Program Director openings at Qualcomm filtered by visa sponsorship type, use Migrate Mate. It surfaces roles where sponsorship has been confirmed, saving you from applying to positions where international candidates are routinely screened out at the offer stage.
Prepare for multi-round interviews that test program governance
Qualcomm's Program Director interview process typically includes a system design round and a cross-functional stakeholder scenario. Prepare concrete examples of managing ambiguity across engineering, legal, and external partner teams, since these directly mirror the role's day-to-day in media and entertainment programs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Program Directors?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Program Director roles and has done so consistently across its media and entertainment business. The process involves Qualcomm filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submitting an H-1B petition to USCIS on your behalf. If you're subject to the annual cap, your start date will align with the October 1 fiscal year.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Program Director roles?
Qualcomm uses several visa categories for Program Directors depending on your background and citizenship. H-1B is the most common path for non-treaty-country nationals. Canadian and Mexican citizens may use TN visa status. Australian citizens can use H-1B1 visa. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for recent graduates, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is available for longer-term candidates.
How do I apply for Program Director jobs at Qualcomm?
You can apply directly through Qualcomm's careers site or find sponsorship-confirmed openings through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa type so you can target positions where international candidates are actively considered. Tailor your application to highlight cross-functional program delivery experience, particularly within media technology, streaming, or hardware-software partnership contexts, as these align closely with Qualcomm's media and entertainment programs.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Program Director roles?
Qualcomm typically looks for a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, paired with substantial experience leading large-scale, cross-functional programs. For roles in the media and entertainment space, experience managing external content or platform partnerships adds significant weight. Program management certifications are common among competitive applicants but are not universally required.
How do I plan my timeline if Qualcomm offers me a Program Director role on F-1 OPT?
If you're on F-1 OPT when you receive an offer, map your OPT expiration against the H-1B cap season carefully. USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start. If your OPT expires before October 1, you'll need either a timely cap-gap extension through a filed petition or a role that qualifies for cap-exempt filing. Confirm your exact OPT end date with your DSO as early as possible.
