Verify your occupation appears on USMCA
Not every healthcare role at CHLA qualifies for TN status. Cross-reference your job title against the USMCA TN professions list before applying. Roles like Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist, and Medical Technologist qualify; general healthcare support roles typically don't.
Match your credentials to U.S. licensure standards
CHLA's clinical departments require active California licensure or documented eligibility before extending an offer. Canadian and Mexican nurses must show NCLEX passage and a state license, not just home-country credentials. Confirm your credential equivalency is complete before your first recruiter call.
Request a TN-specific offer letter from HR
CHLA's HR team can issue an offer letter that names your TN profession category, your specialty, your anticipated start date, and your degree qualifications. Ask for this explicitly during the offer stage, since a generic employment letter won't satisfy a border officer's documentation requirements.
Target CHLA's specialty clinical departments directly
CHLA's highest TN hiring activity sits in pediatric nursing, respiratory therapy, and rehabilitation services. Applying directly through CHLA's careers portal and filtering by department gives you better visibility into roles structured around USMCA-qualifying profession categories than broad job board searches.
Use Migrate Mate to identify verified TN roles
Before you apply, use Migrate Mate to search CHLA's verified TN-supporting roles by occupation and department. Seeing which job categories CHLA has historically supported for TN admission helps you target applications where your credentials and profession category are the strongest match.
Prepare for same-day admission as a Canadian national
Canadian citizens don't need a consular visa appointment. You present your offer letter, credentials, and supporting documents at a U.S. port of entry and receive TN status on the spot. Bring degree transcripts, your California license documentation, and the CHLA offer letter in a clearly organized packet.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Children's Hospital Los Angeles sponsor TN visas?
CHLA supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying healthcare roles by issuing the required offer letter. TN status is treaty-based under USMCA, so there's no employer petition or USCIS filing involved. CHLA's HR team coordinates the offer letter process once a role is confirmed, and the worker presents documentation at the border or consulate.
Which roles and departments at CHLA typically support TN admission?
CHLA most commonly supports TN admission in clinical roles that appear on the USMCA professions list, including Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Respiratory Therapists, and Medical Technologists. These roles concentrate in CHLA's inpatient nursing units, rehabilitation services, and diagnostic departments. Roles outside the USMCA list, including general administrative or support positions, don't qualify regardless of CHLA's preference.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a CHLA job offer?
Once CHLA extends an offer, ask HR to issue a TN-specific offer letter that identifies your profession category under USMCA, your role, your qualifications, and your intended start date. Canadian nationals take that letter directly to a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a U.S. consular appointment. USCIS is not involved in either path.
How long does TN admission typically take at a port of entry or consulate?
Canadian nationals applying at a land border or airport typically receive a decision the same day, often within a few hours. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate follow standard nonimmigrant visa appointment timelines, which vary by consulate and season. Building in at least two to four weeks before your CHLA start date is advisable for Mexican applicants.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at CHLA?
Search CHLA's careers portal and filter by clinical department, then cross-reference job titles against the USMCA TN professions list to confirm eligibility before applying. Migrate Mate also lets you search CHLA's verified TN-supporting roles by occupation category, which speeds up targeting significantly. Prioritize roles where your profession category and California licensure status are already confirmed.
How does TN visa admission work at Children's Hospital Los Angeles?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Children's Hospital Los Angeles, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
