ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a highly capable Mechanical Engineer to own the design and integration of lighting and audio systems for our autonomous delivery robot, DOT. This role requires a balance of strong mechanical fundamentals, system-level thinking, and an eye for human-robot interaction.
You will lead the development of DOT's interactive lighting systems—ranging from expressive "eyeballs" to headlights and taillight strategies—as well as the mechanical integration of audio hardware that enables clear, reliable two-way communication with customers and law enforcement. You'll work both independently and with partners to bring these systems from concept through production.
- Own end-to-end development of DOT's lighting systems, including:
- Interactive "eyeball" lighting elements that convey intent and state
- Headlight and taillight architectures balancing safety, compliance, and brand expression
- Integration of LEDs, light pipes, diffusers, and housings
- Lead the mechanical design and integration of audio systems, including:
- Speaker enclosures optimized for clarity and environmental durability
- Microphone placement and packaging for effective two-way communication in real-world conditions
- Translate product and UX requirements into robust mechanical designs that enable intuitive interaction through light and sound
- Develop detailed CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings, and drive design reviews
- Collaborate cross-functionally with EE, firmware, industrial design, and product teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Work with external vendors and partners to co-develop components, manage design trade-offs, and ensure quality
- Drive prototyping, testing, and validation, including environmental (weather, vibration, ingress) and performance testing
- Make informed decisions around materials, manufacturing processes, and cost, ensuring designs are production-ready
- Contribute to system architecture and help define best practices for interactive hardware systems
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5–8 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in robotics, automotive, or consumer hardware
- Strong proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar) with experience delivering production-ready designs
- Demonstrated experience designing and integrating lighting systems or optical/mechatronic components
- Experience packaging and integrating audio components (speakers, microphones) into complex systems
- Solid understanding of DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, sealing, adhesives)
- Experience working directly with suppliers and external partners through development and production
- Ability to operate with high ownership and autonomy, while collaborating effectively across disciplines
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with automotive or robotic lighting systems
- Familiarity with IP-rated designs and environmental sealing strategies
- Basic understanding of acoustics and optical performance
- Experience designing interactive or expressive hardware systems
- Comfort working in fast-paced, iterative development environments

Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility depends on your role mapping to a specific USMCA profession list category. For DoorDash roles, that typically means Computer Systems Analyst, Engineer, or Scientist. Confirm your job title aligns before applying, since DoorDash can't issue a valid offer letter for roles outside that list.
Target engineering and data teams directly
DoorDash's TN hires concentrate in software engineering, machine learning, and data infrastructure. When searching open roles, filter for these teams rather than general technology listings. Roles tied to marketplace systems, logistics optimization, or platform reliability tend to match USMCA profession categories most cleanly.
Request a detailed offer letter early
At border entry or a consulate, the CBP officer reviews your DoorDash offer letter for professional classification, wage, and job duties. Ask your recruiter to specify your USMCA profession category explicitly in the letter, not just a job title, to reduce the risk of a secondary inspection delay.
Verify your wage against prevailing rates
Your DoorDash offer must meet the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Cross-check your offered salary using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting, so you can flag a discrepancy before the offer letter is finalized rather than after you've booked travel.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN roles
Before reaching out to DoorDash recruiters, use Migrate Mate to identify which of their open roles have supported TN admission historically. That context helps you prioritize applications and frame your eligibility in recruiter conversations around specific teams rather than the company broadly.
Prepare your credential documentation in advance
CBP officers at the border don't schedule appointments or reschedule. If your degree is from a non-U.S. institution, carry an official credential evaluation alongside your transcripts. For DoorDash technical roles, a brief letter from a current or former employer confirming your occupation category can also strengthen your admission package.
DoorDash TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does DoorDash sponsor TN visas?
Yes, DoorDash supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA professions. Rather than filing a petition, DoorDash issues an offer letter that the worker presents at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles are concentrated in engineering, data science, and technical operations teams.
Which DoorDash departments typically support TN admission?
TN candidates at DoorDash are most commonly placed in software engineering, machine learning, data infrastructure, and platform reliability. These roles map well to USMCA profession categories like Computer Systems Analyst and Engineer. Product management and design roles are less consistently supported because the USMCA profession fit is harder to establish for those job titles.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a DoorDash offer?
Once DoorDash issues your offer letter, Canadian citizens present it directly at a U.S. land port of entry or preclearance airport for same-day TN admission. Mexican nationals schedule a nonimmigrant visa interview at a U.S. consulate. In both cases, your offer letter must clearly state your USMCA profession category, employer name, compensation, and intended role.
How long does TN admission take for a DoorDash role?
For Canadians, TN admission at the border is typically same-day if your documents are in order. Mexican nationals face consulate wait times that vary by location and season, often ranging from a few weeks to several months. USCIS also adjudicates TN status changes for people already in the U.S., which takes longer than border admission.
How do I find TN-eligible roles at DoorDash?
Not every DoorDash job posting indicates TN eligibility explicitly. Migrate Mate filters for employers with TN sponsorship history, so you can identify which open DoorDash roles have supported TN admission and approach recruiters with that context already in hand. Cross-reference the role's duties against the USMCA professions list before applying to confirm the fit.
How does TN visa admission work at DoorDash?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from DoorDash, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
