Match your role to USMCA professions
Google's TN-eligible roles map directly to USMCA's defined professions list. Before applying, confirm your target role falls under a qualifying category like engineer, computer systems analyst, or scientist using O*NET to verify the occupation's classification and degree requirements.
Highlight degree-to-role alignment early
Google recruiters screening TN candidates expect your degree field to match the role directly. A software engineering role needs a computer science or engineering credential, not a general business degree, so lead with your specific major and field on your resume and in your cover letter.
Request a detailed TN support letter
Google's offer letter for TN admission must specify your job title, a detailed description of your duties, the USMCA profession category, your anticipated start date, and your salary. Ask your Google recruiter explicitly to include all these elements before you travel to the port of entry.
Prepare for a CBP officer interview
Canadian nationals present their Google offer letter directly to a CBP officer at the border, with no prior USCIS filing required. Bring printed copies of your credentials and be ready to explain your role's connection to your degree field clearly and concisely in under two minutes.
Search Google's TN hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Google's verified TN hiring history by role and department before you apply. Seeing which job categories Google has historically supported for TN admission helps you prioritize applications where your credentials are most likely to align with their established patterns.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage
Google's offer must meet or exceed the prevailing wage for your role and work location. Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating compensation so you enter the offer conversation knowing the minimum threshold CBP officers and Google's immigration team expect.
Google TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor TN visas?
Google supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in USMCA-eligible professions, primarily in software engineering, data science, and technical program management. TN is not a petition-based visa, so Google doesn't file with USCIS. Instead, Google issues a qualifying offer letter that you present at the border or a U.S. consulate to obtain TN status.
Which Google roles are eligible for TN status?
TN status at Google is available for roles that match USMCA's defined professions list. Software engineers, computer systems analysts, scientists, and certain technical program managers commonly qualify. Roles in sales, marketing, or general operations typically don't map to a USMCA profession category, making TN status unavailable regardless of Google's willingness to support it.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Google offer?
Once Google extends an offer, ask your recruiter for a TN support letter that specifies your job title, duties, USMCA profession category, start date, and salary. Canadian nationals then present that letter directly to a CBP officer at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate first.
How long does the TN process take at Google?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically granted the same day at the port of entry, assuming your documents are in order. Mexican nationals face a longer timeline tied to consular appointment availability, which can range from a few days to several weeks. Google's immigration team can advise on which consulates have shorter wait times in your region.
How do I find open TN-eligible roles at Google?
Search Google's careers page filtering by engineering and technical roles, then cross-reference those job titles against the USMCA professions list to confirm TN eligibility before applying. Migrate Mate's employer search lets you see Google's TN hiring patterns by role category, helping you target positions where your credentials align with Google's established TN admission history.
How does TN visa admission work at Google?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Google, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
