Verify your role appears on the USMCA list
Not every healthcare title at HSHS qualifies for TN admission. Cross-reference your job title against the USMCA professions list before applying. Roles like medical technologist, physical therapist, and registered nurse qualify, but support or administrative titles typically don't.
Request a TN-specific offer letter
HSHS must issue an offer letter that explicitly states your TN-qualifying occupation, your job duties, your work location, and your period of employment. Ask HR directly whether their standard offer template includes TN-specific language, and request amendments if it doesn't.
Target clinical departments with recurring vacancies
HSHS operates multiple hospital and outpatient facilities across the Midwest. ICU, surgical services, and rehabilitation departments tend to have consistent hiring needs. Focusing your applications on high-turnover clinical units improves your odds of reaching a hiring manager familiar with TN candidates.
Check prevailing wage expectations before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your occupation and the specific HSHS facility location before accepting an offer. Knowing the wage floor lets you negotiate confidently and flags any offer that may create problems at the border.
Search HSHS job listings on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter HSHS job listings by TN-eligible roles and review the company's visa hiring history by occupation. This saves time by surfacing openings where TN admission has been supported before, rather than cold-applying and discovering eligibility issues late in the process.
Prepare your credential documentation before your border appointment
Canadian TN applicants present documents at the port of entry, so delays happen when credentials aren't ready. Gather your degree transcripts, professional license, and the HSHS offer letter into a single package. State nursing boards often issue verification letters separately, so request that document early.
Hospital Sisters Health System TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hospital Sisters Health System sponsor TN visas?
Yes, HSHS supports TN admission for qualifying healthcare professionals. Rather than filing a petition, HSHS issues an offer letter that Canadian or Mexican workers present at a port of entry or U.S. consulate. The roles covered are limited to USMCA-listed occupations, which include many clinical and allied health titles HSHS regularly recruits.
Which roles and departments at HSHS typically support TN admission?
Clinical roles such as registered nurses, physical therapists, medical technologists, and occupational therapists are among the USMCA-listed occupations HSHS hires for with TN support. Departments including inpatient nursing, rehabilitation, and diagnostic imaging see consistent demand. Administrative and support roles generally don't qualify under USMCA's defined professions list.
How do I start the TN process once HSHS makes me an offer?
After accepting an offer, ask HSHS HR to issue a TN-specific letter confirming your occupation, duties, location, and employment term. Canadian citizens then present this letter directly at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican citizens apply through a U.S. consulate. There's no USCIS petition, no lottery, and no Labor Condition Application required for TN admission.
How long does it take to get TN status through HSHS?
Canadian citizens can receive TN admission the same day at the port of entry if their documents are complete. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate and face appointment wait times that vary by location and season. TN status is granted for up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely as long as the qualifying employment continues.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at HSHS?
Search HSHS listings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by TN-eligible occupation codes and shows the company's visa hiring history by job type. Cross-reference any role you find against the USMCA professions list and review the O*NET occupation profile for your title to confirm the role's duties align with TN qualification criteria before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at Hospital Sisters Health System?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Hospital Sisters Health System, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
