Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission at IU Health is only available for roles on the USMCA professions list. Verify your occupation code against that list before applying, and confirm your degree specifically matches the listed requirement, a closely related field often isn't enough at the border.
Target high-volume clinical departments first
IU Health's largest hiring volume for TN professionals sits in nursing, pharmacy, and rehabilitation services. Focus your applications on those departments, where hiring managers are already familiar with TN admission logistics and won't need internal education on the process.
Request a detailed offer letter early
IU Health's offer letter must state your job title, duties, salary, and intended duration of employment. Get this letter before your border appointment and cross-check every detail against your USMCA occupation category, mismatches are the most common cause of TN delays.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified IU Health TN openings
Filter by TN visa type on Migrate Mate to surface IU Health roles confirmed to support TN admission. This narrows your search to positions where the employer has already demonstrated willingness to issue TN offer letters, saving you outreach to roles that won't move forward.
Prepare credential evaluation documentation in advance
Canadian and Mexican healthcare degrees aren't automatically accepted as U.S. equivalents. Have a credentials evaluation from a NACES-member organization ready before IU Health extends a formal offer, since delays in evaluation can stall your start date by weeks.
Understand that TN admission is granted at the port of entry
Canadians present their IU Health offer letter directly at a land port of entry or airport, there's no USCIS petition involved. Mexicans apply at a U.S. consulate. In either case, the offer letter's accuracy and your qualifying credentials are what the officer reviews on the day.
Indiana University Health TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Indiana University Health issues offer letters that support TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible USMCA professions. This isn't a petition process, IU Health provides the required employment documentation, and the TN is granted by a Customs and Border Protection officer at entry or by a U.S. consulate for Mexican nationals.
Which roles at Indiana University Health typically qualify for TN admission?
IU Health's TN-eligible roles are concentrated in clinical and allied health disciplines covered by the USMCA professions list, including registered nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, medical laboratory technologists, and dietitians. Roles outside that list, including general administrative and non-clinical positions, don't qualify for TN admission regardless of employer preference.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from IU Health?
Once IU Health extends a formal offer, request a TN support letter specifying your job title, duties, salary, and employment period. Canadians then present this letter along with their credentials at a port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a consular appointment. USCIS is not involved in either path, the entire process runs through CBP or the consulate.
How long does the TN admission process take at Indiana University Health?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission at the port of entry is typically same-day if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals face longer timelines tied to U.S. consulate appointment availability, which varies by location and season. IU Health has no control over consulate scheduling, so building extra lead time into your start date is practical for Mexican applicants.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Indiana University Health?
Use Migrate Mate to filter IU Health job listings by TN visa type, which surfaces roles where the employer supports TN admission. You can also search IU Health's careers page directly and flag roles that match your USMCA profession category, then confirm TN eligibility with the recruiting team before investing time in the application.
How does TN visa admission work at Indiana University Health?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Indiana University Health, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
