Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission requires your role at MGH to match a listed USMCA profession exactly. Review the official USMCA professions list and confirm your job title and duties align before applying. A mismatch between your credentials and the listed occupation is the most common reason for TN denial at the border.
Target MGH departments with USMCA-eligible openings
Focus your search on MGH's clinical research, nursing, pharmacy, and laboratory science departments, where USMCA-eligible roles appear most consistently. Applying broadly across all MGH postings wastes time. Filtering by occupation type upfront puts you in front of hiring managers who already understand TN eligibility requirements.
Request a detailed offer letter from MGH
Your MGH offer letter must specify your job title, duties, required qualifications, salary, and employment period. Border officers use this letter to adjudicate TN admission on the spot. Ask MGH HR explicitly to include each of these elements so your entry isn't delayed over a missing detail.
Prepare your credentials package before the border
Canadian professionals present their TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry with no advance petition. Bring your MGH offer letter, degree transcripts, professional licenses, and any relevant certifications. Having a complete, organized package shortens inspection time and reduces the chance of a secondary review.
Search MGH's verified TN hiring history on Migrate Mate
Before reaching out to recruiters, use Migrate Mate to review MGH's sponsorship history by role and department. This tells you which positions have historically supported TN admission, so you can tailor your application to openings where your credentials are most likely to align with what MGH HR expects.
Verify your wage against the OFLC Wage Search
While TN doesn't require a Labor Condition Application, your MGH offer salary should still meet or exceed the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Cross-check your offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search before accepting. A significantly below-market offer can raise questions during future TN renewals or status reviews.
Massachusetts General Hospital/Mgpo TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Massachusetts General Hospital/MGPO sponsor TN visas?
Yes, MGH hires TN professionals in qualifying USMCA occupations across clinical, research, and allied health roles. TN is treaty-based admission, not an employer petition, so MGH supports the process by issuing a detailed offer letter. Canadian professionals present that letter at the border; Mexican professionals use it at a U.S. consulate.
Which roles and departments at MGH typically support TN admission?
MGH's strongest TN hiring tends to cluster in nursing, pharmacy, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, and research scientist roles. These occupations appear on the USMCA professions list and match MGH's core clinical and research operations. Administrative or general management roles typically do not qualify for TN, so confirm your occupation against the USMCA list before applying.
How do I start the TN process once MGH extends an offer?
Ask MGH HR to issue a formal offer letter covering your job title, duties, required credentials, salary, and employment period. Canadians take that letter directly to a U.S. port of entry along with their degree and license documents. Mexicans apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico. USCIS is not involved in Canadian TN entry; the border officer adjudicates on the spot.
How long does TN admission typically take at the border with an MGH offer letter?
Canadian professionals with a complete document package are typically processed at the port of entry within a few hours, sometimes faster at less congested crossings. Mexican nationals applying at a consulate face appointment scheduling, which can add several weeks. TN status is granted for up to three years initially and can be renewed in three-year increments without a cap on the number of renewals.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at MGH?
Use Migrate Mate to search MGH's verified sponsorship history filtered by occupation type, then apply directly through MGH's careers portal for roles matching your USMCA profession. Contacting MGH recruiters proactively with a clear summary of your TN-eligible credentials and O*NET occupation code can also accelerate screening, since it signals familiarity with the process and reduces burden on the hiring team.
How does TN visa admission work at Massachusetts General Hospital/Mgpo?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Massachusetts General Hospital/Mgpo, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
