Match your credentials to USMCA roles
TN admission covers a fixed list of USMCA professions, so confirm your occupation appears on it before applying. For healthcare roles at Meritus Health, registered nurses, medical technologists, and physical therapists are commonly eligible. Review the official USMCA professions list against your license category.
Verify your license covers Maryland
Meritus Health operates in Maryland, and many TN healthcare roles require state licensure before you can start. Confirm your professional license is valid or transferable to Maryland ahead of your offer letter request. Delays in licensure transfer are a common reason TN admission stalls at the border.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Meritus Health's offer letter must specify your job title, the TN occupation category it maps to, your anticipated start date, and that the position is not permanent. Customs and Border Protection officers use this letter to approve admission, so vague or incomplete letters are the leading cause of TN denials at entry.
Use Migrate Mate to find open TN roles
Targeting Meritus Health directly through Migrate Mate lets you filter for active TN-eligible openings in healthcare without sorting through roles the hospital won't support. Search by occupation type to surface clinical, therapy, and medical technology positions where TN admission is a realistic outcome.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating salary
While TN doesn't require a formal Labor Condition Application, your offered salary at Meritus Health should reflect what the OFLC Wage Search shows for your role and location in Maryland. Underpaying relative to prevailing wage can create complications if you later transition to an H-1B visa with the same employer.
Prepare your credential evaluation documents
If your degree was issued outside the United States, a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's or higher is standard for clinical TN roles at Meritus Health. O*NET can help you confirm the educational benchmark for your specific occupation before you commission an evaluation.
Meritus Health TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Meritus Health sponsor TN visas?
Meritus Health supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican healthcare professionals by issuing offer letters they present at a port of entry or U.S. consulate. Because TN is treaty-based admission rather than an employer-filed petition, there is no USCIS filing involved. Meritus Health's role is to provide a compliant offer letter for eligible USMCA occupations.
Which roles and departments at Meritus Health typically support TN admission?
Clinical and allied health roles are the most common TN-eligible positions at Meritus Health. Registered nurses, medical technologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists fall within the USMCA professions list and align with the hospital's staffing needs. Administrative or general support roles typically don't qualify because they aren't covered USMCA occupations.
How do I start the TN process with Meritus Health?
Once you receive a conditional job offer from Meritus Health, request a formal offer letter specifying your TN occupation category, duties, start date, and confirmation the role isn't permanent. Canadian nationals present this letter at a port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate. You can use Migrate Mate to identify open roles and track which positions at Meritus Health have supported TN candidates.
How long does TN admission take when working with Meritus Health?
Canadian nationals can typically receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry, assuming all documents are in order. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate face consulate-specific wait times that can range from a few days to several weeks depending on appointment availability. Meritus Health's offer letter preparation is generally the main variable on the employer side.
What credentials do I need to present when seeking TN admission for a Meritus Health role?
You'll need Meritus Health's offer letter, proof of citizenship from Canada or Mexico, evidence of your professional qualifications such as a degree or license, and documentation confirming your occupation falls under an approved USMCA category. For clinical roles, Maryland licensure or proof of eligibility for licensure is typically required before Meritus Health will extend an offer.
How does TN visa admission work at Meritus Health?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Meritus Health, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
