Verify your role against USMCA professions
Not every Northwell Health clinical title maps cleanly to the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your exact job description against the official list before applying. Roles like registered nurse, physical therapist, and medical technologist qualify; general healthcare administrator titles typically do not.
Match your credentials to U.S. licensing standards
Northwell Health operates under New York State licensure requirements, so your Canadian or Mexican credentials must be evaluated for equivalency before your TN admission. For nursing roles, NCLEX passage and a CGFNS credential evaluation are typically expected alongside your offer letter documentation.
Target Northwell's high-volume clinical departments first
Northwell Health's hospital network consistently staffs for registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and medical laboratory scientists, all of which appear on the USMCA professions list. Focusing your search on these departments puts you in front of hiring managers familiar with TN admission workflows.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active TN-supporting employers
Before reaching out to Northwell Health recruiters, use Migrate Mate to confirm current TN-supportive job postings and employer filing patterns. Targeting roles already in active hiring cycles shortens your timeline from offer letter to border presentation significantly.
Prepare your offer letter packet before border presentation
Northwell Health issues an offer letter describing your role, salary, and USMCA profession category. Canadian nationals present this at a port of entry; Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate. Bring degree transcripts, professional licenses, and the offer letter in a single organized packet to avoid officer delays.
Understand TN renewal timing within Northwell's contract cycles
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments and can be renewed without a cap. Coordinate your renewal timeline with Northwell Health's HR team at least 60 days before your current status expires, since a new or amended offer letter is required for each renewal presentation.
Northwell Health TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Northwell Health sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Northwell Health supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA professions by issuing offer letters that candidates present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. There is no USCIS petition involved. Eligible roles include registered nurses, physical therapists, medical technologists, and other clinical positions on the USMCA professions list.
Which departments at Northwell Health typically hire TN professionals?
Northwell Health's clinical departments see the most TN-eligible hiring, particularly nursing, respiratory therapy, medical laboratory sciences, and physical or occupational therapy. These roles align directly with USMCA-listed professions. Administrative or general management roles are less likely to qualify, so confirming your specific job title against the USMCA list before applying is essential.
How do I start the TN process with Northwell Health?
Once Northwell Health extends a job offer, their HR team issues a support letter confirming your role, employer details, and USMCA profession classification. Canadian nationals take that letter to a U.S. port of entry for border admission. Mexican nationals schedule a consular interview. You'll also need degree credentials and any required state professional licenses.
How long does TN admission take for Northwell Health candidates?
Canadian nationals admitted at the border typically receive a decision the same day. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate should expect a few weeks depending on appointment availability. Northwell Health's offer letter preparation generally takes one to two weeks after a formal offer is accepted. Use Migrate Mate to track employer timelines and prepare your documentation efficiently.
Can I switch from TN status to a Green Card while working at Northwell Health?
TN status is nonimmigrant and does not require immigrant intent, but Northwell Health does sponsor employment-based Green Cards, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories. Transitioning from TN to a Green Card pathway requires a separate employer-sponsored PERM labor certification process. Discussing long-term sponsorship intentions early with Northwell's HR team helps align timelines.
How does TN visa admission work at Northwell Health?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Northwell Health, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
