Verify your role appears on the USMCA list
Not every healthcare title qualifies for TN admission. Cross-reference your exact job title against the USMCA professions list before applying to Prisma Health. Clinical roles like medical technologist or pharmacist qualify; generic titles like healthcare coordinator often don't without careful framing.
Request a credential evaluation before applying
Prisma Health requires proof your degree meets U.S. licensing standards. If your nursing or medical degree is from outside the U.S. or Canada, get a credential evaluation completed early. Many delays at the border stem from documentation gaps discovered after an offer is already extended.
Target Prisma Health's clinical and hospital divisions
Prisma Health operates large hospital systems and specialty clinics across South Carolina. TN-eligible hires tend to cluster in direct patient care, laboratory services, and pharmacy. Focus your search on those divisions rather than administrative or operations roles, which rarely map to USMCA professions.
Use Migrate Mate to find active TN roles at Prisma Health
Searching general job boards makes it hard to filter for employers who actively support TN candidates. Migrate Mate lets you search Prisma Health's open positions filtered by TN eligibility, so you're applying to roles where the pathway already exists rather than negotiating from scratch.
Confirm the offer letter includes all border-required details
Canadians present their offer letter directly at a port of entry, so every required element must be included upfront. The letter must state your TN profession category, employment duration, and that the role requires your specific degree. Ask Prisma Health's HR team to confirm these fields before your travel date.
Prepare for TN renewal timing tied to your contract length
TN status is granted in increments matching your employment period, up to three years per admission. When negotiating your offer with Prisma Health, ensure your contract term aligns with the full period you need. Short-term contracts can force earlier renewal appointments without any grace period buffer.
Prisma Health TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Prisma Health sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Prisma Health supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican professionals in USMCA-eligible healthcare roles. The process doesn't involve an employer petition to USCIS. Instead, Prisma Health issues an offer letter documenting your role, degree requirement, and employment period, which you present at a port of entry or U.S. consulate.
Which roles at Prisma Health typically qualify for TN admission?
Roles in direct clinical care and allied health services are the strongest fit. Physicians, registered nurses, pharmacists, medical technologists, and physical therapists all appear on the USMCA professions list and align with Prisma Health's core hiring areas. Administrative and operations roles rarely qualify because they don't map to a recognized USMCA profession category.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from Prisma Health?
Once Prisma Health extends an offer, their HR team issues a support letter confirming your USMCA profession, degree requirement, and employment details. Canadian citizens present this letter at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate. You'll also bring your degree credentials, passport, and any applicable professional licenses.
How long does TN admission take when working with Prisma Health?
For Canadian citizens crossing at a port of entry, admission is typically adjudicated the same day. Mexican citizens applying at a consulate face longer timelines depending on appointment availability and administrative processing. Prisma Health's offer letter doesn't require USCIS processing, so there's no petition queue to wait through, which is a meaningful advantage over H-1B visa timelines.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Prisma Health?
Migrate Mate lists Prisma Health's open roles filtered by visa type, so you can identify TN-eligible positions without sifting through postings that don't support international candidates. Once you've identified a matching role, confirm with Prisma Health's recruiting team that your specific title maps to a USMCA profession before submitting your application materials.
How does TN visa admission work at Prisma Health?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Prisma Health, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
