Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN admission requires your role to appear on the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your clinical or allied health title against the list before applying to Sheppard Pratt. A mismatch at the border costs time and jeopardizes your start date.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Sheppard Pratt's offer letter must describe your job duties, educational requirements, and TN category by name. Ask HR to confirm these specifics before your border crossing or consulate appointment so officers can approve your admission without a second look.
Verify your degree meets U.S. equivalency standards
Behavioral health and clinical roles at Sheppard Pratt require a degree directly tied to the USMCA profession. If your credentials come from outside the U.S. or Canada, get a credential evaluation in advance so the border officer can confirm equivalency on the spot.
Target departments with active TN hiring
Sheppard Pratt's inpatient psychiatric, outpatient behavioral health, and rehabilitation teams regularly bring on TN professionals. Focusing your search on these clinical units increases your chances of landing a role where the hiring team already understands TN admission requirements.
Search Migrate Mate to find open TN roles
Filter your job search by TN sponsorship history before reaching out to Sheppard Pratt recruiters. Migrate Mate surfaces roles at healthcare employers that actively support TN admission, saving you from cold-applying to positions where sponsorship is uncertain or unavailable.
Prepare for same-day admission at the port of entry
Canadian nationals present TN documents directly at the border with no prior USCIS filing needed. Organize your offer letter, degree certificates, and any professional licenses into one packet so the Customs and Border Protection officer can process your admission without delays.
Sheppard Pratt TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sheppard Pratt sponsor TN visas?
Sheppard Pratt supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible clinical and allied health roles. Rather than filing a petition, the organization issues a support letter that you present at the border or consulate. Your role must appear on the USMCA professions list and your credentials must match the listed requirements.
Which roles at Sheppard Pratt are eligible for TN admission?
Roles in psychiatry, psychology, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and related behavioral health disciplines commonly align with USMCA profession categories. Sheppard Pratt's clinical departments are the most active areas for TN-eligible hiring. Use O*NET to confirm your occupation's standard duties match the USMCA category you plan to use.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Sheppard Pratt offer?
Once you have a written offer, ask HR to confirm your USMCA profession category and ensure the letter includes your job title, duties, required qualifications, and employment period. Canadian nationals then present this letter at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a consulate appointment. No USCIS filing or LCA is required for TN.
How long does TN admission take at the border or consulate?
Canadian nationals approved at the port of entry typically receive TN status the same day. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate face appointment wait times that vary by location and season. Either way, preparation matters: incomplete documentation is the most common cause of delays or secondary inspection, so verify your packet before you travel.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Sheppard Pratt?
Migrate Mate lets you search for TN-eligible roles at healthcare employers including Sheppard Pratt, filtering by visa type so you focus only on positions where TN support is realistic. From there, target Sheppard Pratt's clinical and behavioral health departments directly, and confirm TN eligibility with the recruiter before advancing in the hiring process.
How does TN visa admission work at Sheppard Pratt?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Sheppard Pratt, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
