Verify your role appears on the USMCA professions list
Not every clinical title at Summa Health qualifies for TN admission. Cross-reference your exact job title against the USMCA TN professions list before applying. Roles like registered nurse, physical therapist, and medical technologist are explicitly listed; broader administrative or support titles are not.
Align your credentials to U.S. licensure standards early
Summa Health operates in Ohio, where state licensure is required before starting work in most clinical roles. Secure your Ohio license or a temporary work permit before your border crossing, because TN admission does not grant you extra time to complete post-arrival credentialing.
Request a TN-specific offer letter from Summa Health
The offer letter Summa Health issues must state your USMCA profession category, degree requirement, anticipated duties, and employment period. Bring it to your port of entry along with your degree transcripts. A vague or incomplete letter is the most common reason TN admission is delayed at the border.
Search Migrate Mate for open TN roles at Summa Health
Finding roles where the employer already understands TN admission requirements saves you significant back-and-forth. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Summa Health positions tagged for TN-eligible professionals, so you're targeting openings where HR is already prepared to issue the right documentation.
Prepare for renewed TN status when your contract renews
TN status is granted in increments tied to your employment period. When Summa Health extends your contract, you'll need to either re-enter the U.S. or file a change of status with USCIS to continue working without interruption. Plan this renewal at least 60 days before your current status expires.
Understand how Summa Health handles credential verification
Large integrated health systems like Summa Health route foreign-trained clinical staff through formal credentialing committees before granting privileges. Start the credentialing packet alongside your hiring paperwork, not after, since committee review cycles can add weeks to your start-date timeline.
Summa Health TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Summa Health sponsor TN visas?
Summa Health supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA professions. Rather than filing a petition, Summa Health issues an offer letter that you present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. Eligible roles are limited to professions explicitly listed in the USMCA treaty, such as registered nurses, physical therapists, and medical technologists.
Which departments at Summa Health typically hire TN professionals?
Clinical and allied health departments account for most TN-supported roles at Summa Health. Nursing units, rehabilitation services, laboratory and medical technology teams, and pharmacy are the areas where USMCA-listed professions align most naturally with open positions. Administrative or general operations roles rarely map to the USMCA professions list and would not qualify for TN admission.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a job offer from Summa Health?
Once Summa Health extends an offer, request a TN support letter that identifies your USMCA profession category, your qualifying degree, and your anticipated job duties. Canadian citizens then present this letter at a U.S. port of entry for CBP review. Mexican nationals schedule a visa appointment at a U.S. consulate. No USCIS petition is filed at this stage.
How long does it take to start working at Summa Health on TN status?
Canadian nationals can receive TN admission the same day they appear at a qualifying port of entry, assuming documentation is complete and CBP approves admission. Mexican nationals face longer consular appointment wait times. Factor in Ohio licensure timelines and Summa Health's internal credentialing process, which can add several additional weeks before your first clinical shift.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Summa Health?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Summa Health roles that align with USMCA-listed professions. Filtering by TN-eligible positions helps you avoid applying to titles that won't qualify at the border. Confirm with Summa Health's HR team that your specific job title and duties match the USMCA profession category before investing time in the credentialing and documentation process.
How does TN visa admission work at Summa Health?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Summa Health, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
