How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of Memphis Visa Sponsorship USA
Target faculty and research roles first
The University of Memphis most commonly sponsors international candidates for academic and research positions. Focus your search on tenure-track faculty openings, postdoctoral roles, and research scientist positions, where sponsorship is a standard part of the hiring process.
Understand the H-1B timeline before applying
Universities operate on academic hiring cycles. If you're targeting a fall start, the H-1B petition window matters. Engage HR early to confirm whether the role supports cap-exempt H-1B filing, which universities often qualify for, bypassing the annual lottery.
Ask about Green Card support upfront
The University of Memphis has a track record of sponsoring permanent residence alongside temporary visas. For research and faculty roles, ask during interviews whether the department supports EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship as part of the long-term employment arrangement.
Leverage your F-1 OPT or CPT strategically
If you're an international student, the University of Memphis participates in OPT and CPT programs. A campus job or graduate assistantship can serve as a bridge while you pursue H-1B sponsorship, giving you valuable U.S. work experience within a known sponsor.
Browse verified sponsorship history before applying
Not every job posting mentions visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles at the University of Memphis by confirmed sponsorship history, so you can apply with confidence rather than guessing from a job description.
Check whether your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility depends on the position requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher. At a university, professional staff roles in IT, finance, and engineering typically qualify. Confirm the job description explicitly links degree requirements to the role before applying.

Does University of Memphis sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, the University of Memphis sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. As a public university, it may qualify as a cap-exempt employer, meaning sponsored employees can file outside the annual H-1B lottery and start sooner. Confirm cap-exempt eligibility with the university's HR or international services office when you receive an offer.
What visa types does University of Memphis sponsor?
The University of Memphis sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for permanent positions, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for eligible international students. TN status is also available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional roles. The mix of visa types reflects the university's range of academic, research, and administrative hiring.
Which departments or roles at University of Memphis are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Faculty positions across STEM, business, and social science departments are the most common sponsored roles. Research-intensive departments and postdoctoral programs also sponsor regularly. Professional staff roles in IT, data analytics, and engineering can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a specific degree. Administrative or general support roles are less likely to include sponsorship.
How do I find open jobs at University of Memphis that include visa sponsorship?
The most reliable approach is to search for University of Memphis roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions from verified sponsors and lets you filter by sponsorship type and visa category. This saves time compared to reviewing individual postings that rarely state sponsorship eligibility clearly. You can also check the university's official careers portal and contact HR directly to confirm sponsorship for a specific role.
How do I approach the application process at University of Memphis as an international candidate?
Apply through the official university careers portal and indicate your visa status in the application. For faculty roles, the hiring timeline often spans several months, so early engagement matters. Once you reach the offer stage, connect with the university's Office of International Students and Scholars, which typically coordinates sponsorship paperwork with HR and outside immigration counsel.
