How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of North Dakota Visa Sponsorship USA
Target research and STEM-adjacent roles first
University of North Dakota's sponsorship activity is concentrated in research, science, and technical fields. Prioritize roles in engineering, health sciences, and aviation, departments where international hiring through H-1B is most common and the pathway is well-established.
Understand the university's hiring calendar
Academic institutions like UND hire on a predictable cycle tied to the academic year. Faculty and research positions typically open in fall and winter, so time your applications to align with these windows before H-1B cap season in March.
Ask directly about sponsorship during the interview
University HR departments often have dedicated international hiring staff. Confirm early whether the specific department has budget approved for visa sponsorship, not all open roles at UND will have sponsorship pre-authorized, even at an active sponsoring institution.
Explore postdoctoral and research staff pathways
Postdoc and research associate roles at UND are frequently filled by international candidates and often come with clear sponsorship expectations. These positions can also serve as a bridge toward longer-term H-1B or permanent residence sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3.
Leverage F-1 OPT or CPT while you build your case
UND sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, making it a viable stepping stone for international students already in the U.S. Use OPT employment to demonstrate value to the department before the institution commits to H-1B sponsorship, this sequence works well at universities.
Find verified sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
Not every job listing makes sponsorship status clear. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus on University of North Dakota openings where international hiring is confirmed, saving time on applications that won't lead anywhere.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Dakota sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, University of North Dakota sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of doing so across academic, research, and administrative roles. As a public research university, UND is a cap-exempt employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions at any time of year without being subject to the annual lottery, a significant advantage for applicants.
What visa types does University of North Dakota sponsor?
University of North Dakota sponsors H-1B visas, Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 categories, and supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT. TN visas are also among the visa types it has sponsored, making it a strong option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional roles.
Which departments or roles at University of North Dakota are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at UND is most common in research-intensive departments, STEM fields, health sciences, and specialized academic roles requiring advanced credentials. Faculty positions, postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff in areas like engineering, aerospace, and biomedical sciences have historically been strong candidates for H-1B and Green Card sponsorship.
How do I find open jobs at University of North Dakota that include visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find University of North Dakota roles with confirmed sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through listings where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate lets you filter by verified sponsors so you can focus your effort on positions where international hiring is a real and established practice.
How do I approach the application timeline when targeting University of North Dakota for H-1B sponsorship?
Because UND is cap-exempt, the H-1B filing timeline is more flexible than at private-sector employers. However, you should still build in time for department budget approval, HR processing, and attorney review, this can take several months. Starting conversations about sponsorship early in the interview process gives you the best chance of a smooth transition.
