Frame your credentials for clinical physics
VUMC physics roles in radiation oncology and imaging typically require board eligibility or certification from the American Board of Radiology. Confirm your foreign credentials align with ABR pathways before applying, and have transcripts evaluated by a NACES-approved service.
Search Physics roles through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters open Physics positions at VUMC by visa type, so you can focus on roles explicitly open to H-1B or OPT candidates instead of guessing from a general careers page.
Clarify specialty occupation documentation early
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires that the physics role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Request a written job description from VUMC's HR before your offer letter is finalized so your attorney can confirm the documentation supports your petition.

Find Physics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Vanderbilt University Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Yes, Vanderbilt University Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Physics roles, particularly in medical physics, radiation oncology physics, and imaging research. As a large academic medical center, VUMC has established immigration processes and works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions. You should confirm sponsorship intent directly with the hiring team during the offer stage, since not every position carries the same sponsorship commitment.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physics roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center?
Physics positions at VUMC are commonly filled through H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, TN, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship. J-1 is frequently used for medical physics residency and research training positions. TN applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying physics roles. H-1B is the primary long-term work visa for staff physicist positions, often followed by employer-sponsored Green Card filing for permanent roles.
What qualifications does Vanderbilt University Medical Center expect for Physics roles?
Staff physicist roles at VUMC typically require a master's degree or doctorate in medical physics, health physics, or a closely related field. Clinical positions in radiation oncology or imaging additionally expect CAMPEP-accredited training and progress toward American Board of Radiology certification. Research-focused roles may prioritize publications and laboratory experience over clinical credentials. Foreign degrees generally need to demonstrate equivalency to U.S. standards, often through a credential evaluation.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center?
You can browse and apply for open Physics positions at Vanderbilt University Medical Center through Migrate Mate, which shows you roles filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can identify openings that match your immigration status. Applications typically go through VUMC's central careers portal, where you submit a CV, cover letter, and references. For clinical roles, be prepared to provide proof of ABR eligibility or certification status early in the process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Physics role at Vanderbilt University Medical Center?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B filing opens in April for an October 1 start date, meaning you need your offer finalized by March. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply to your DSO well before your graduation date. If VUMC pursues PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, expect the full process from labor certification through I-485 approval to take several years, depending on your country of birth and priority date.
