EHS Professional – Data Center Construction

Must demonstrate a proven history of managing diverse EHS programs while effectively executing them across the full scope of a project.

One-Line Co. is seeking an experienced, full-time Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Professional to serve as the owner's representative on a Data Center construction project in Grand Rapids, MI. This is an essential, on-site role with direct responsibility for ensuring project-wide safety and EHS compliance.

Role Summary

The primary objective is to manage and ensure the General Contractor (GC) and all sub-contractors comply with the client’s stringent EHS requirements and all applicable local and federal regulatory standards (AHJ). This role requires a hands-on, partnership-driven approach, providing expert guidance and oversight to maintain the highest safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Management and Compliance

• Oversight: Act as the primary authority for ensuring the GC's conformance with client EHS requirements, regulatory mandates (AHJ), and specific references detailed in the Scope of Work (SOW).
• Documentation Review: Critically review and assess essential EHS documents, including the Construction EHS Programs (CEHSP), Emergency Management Plan, Safety Procedures, and all hazard assessments (RAMS, JHAs, ARTs, PTPs, etc.) for completeness and effectiveness.
• Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Support the construction management team with timely and accurate data on Contractor EHS performance, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), incident management, trends, and environmental monitoring. Ensure all submitted EHS data (leading and lagging indicators) is accurate and complete.

Onsite Engagement and Coaching

• Site Presence: Conduct required site safety walks and focused field audits with the Contractor management representative, the Owner’s PM/team, and participate in daily site tours with the GC safety representative.
• Incident Response: Participate in incident investigation teams, immediately reporting all incidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, and conducting investigations to prevent recurrence.
• Training & Meetings: Attend and facilitate client-specific training, and participate in essential project meetings (GC all hands, Safety Committee meetings, Activity Briefings).
• Advisory Role: Act as a coach and advisor to the site Safety Committee. Interface with the contractor to advise on and implement corrective actions for identified deficiencies.

Additional Scope

• Support other construction projects/activities as needed, following program EHS requirements.
• Travel to multiple project locations may be required.

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education (Mandatory Criteria in Bold)

• Bachelor's degree in an environmental, health, and/or safety program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have demonstrated ability to monitor multiple EHS programs while implementing programs project wide.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience (10 years preferred).
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple contractors/sub-contractors.
• Mandatory expertise in electrical safety (NFPA 70e) and specific data center construction experience.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, federal, and state health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Professional Certifications (CHST, CSP, etc.) are preferred.

Leadership and Communication

• Mandatory leadership skills necessary to motivate the team and positively influence job site safety and morale.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, emphasizing a collaborative, partnership-driven approach.
• Proven ability to write professional reports, business processes, and briefing notes, and develop targeted critical messaging for diverse audiences.
• Ability to handle sensitive topics with diplomacy and tact, effectively responding to complex inquiries from clients and management.
• Engaging presentation skills for delivering HSE messages to both small and large groups.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $185,000.00 per year
