CPT Nursing Aide Jobs
Nursing Aide roles on CPT must connect directly to your healthcare or nursing curriculum, so your DSO needs documentation showing the position involves hands-on patient care, not administrative work. Hospitals, long-term care facilities, and rehabilitation centers regularly authorize CPT for these roles, but your offer letter must specify clinical duties tied to your program's learning objectives.

Get Access To All JobsNursing Aide CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Nursing Aide job qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is an integral part of your enrolled curriculum. Your DSO must confirm that your program's learning objectives require supervised clinical work, and the Nursing Aide position must involve direct patient care duties. Roles limited to administrative or housekeeping tasks typically don't qualify. Your school will require a job offer letter specifying clinical responsibilities before issuing CPT authorization on your I-20.
Can I work part-time as a Nursing Aide on CPT while taking classes?
Yes. CPT can be authorized on a part-time basis, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, which lets you work while maintaining a full course load. Part-time CPT also doesn't count against your OPT eligibility, unlike full-time CPT used for 12 or more months. Confirm the hours with your DSO before accepting an offer, since your I-20 will specify the authorized weekly schedule.
Which healthcare employers commonly authorize CPT for Nursing Aide students?
Long-term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and home health agencies tend to have the most experience with F-1 CPT authorization because they hire Nursing Aides in consistent volume and are used to flexible onboarding. Acute-care hospitals also hire Nursing Aides but often have slower HR processes for work authorization verification. What happens to my CPT authorization if my employer changes my job duties?
If your job duties shift away from the clinical tasks listed in your CPT authorization, your status could be at risk. CPT is tied to specific employment terms, including the employer, location, and role description. Any material change in duties should be reported to your DSO immediately, who may need to update or reissue your I-20. Don't assume a verbal change from your supervisor is compliant without confirming with your school first.
Do Nursing Aide CPT employers need to file anything with USCIS?
No. CPT authorization is handled entirely through your school and DSO, with no filing required from USCIS or the employer. Your school updates your I-20 to reflect the authorized employment, and you present that updated I-20 along with your visa and the Form I-9 to your employer. Employers do need to complete Form I-9 and may run E-Verify, but there's no government petition or fee involved on the employer's side.
