IT Infrastructure Specialist
Location: Greer, SC 29651
Duration: 06 Months
Work schedule: Mon - Fri 8-5, occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work necessary
Work location: Primarily onsite (~80%), with time split between Plant Spartanburg and the ITRC
Travel requirements: Minimal travel expected. Occasional trips outside the local area may be required (potentially up to once per year), with possible destinations including New Jersey or, less commonly, international locations such as Mexico (SLP Plant) or Germany
Quick summary:
- 80+% Datacenter Team Day to Day Operations position. Hands-on enough to intervene and work with providers during a major incident, senior enough to delegate and supervise day to day work with/from our vendors, and sharp enough to identify audit risks before they hit.
- 20% Infrastructure Team Day to Day Operations position. Enough experience working with Server, Storage, and Lifecycle management to understand how to steer providers in a multi-site, multinational company, and assist in recovery during incidents and outages.
Experience & Skillset Target
- 5+ years in Datacenter Operations monitoring, documentation, provider steering, regulatory compliance/audit (ISO, TUV, TISAX, FDIC)
- Advanced to expert knowledge of fiber & copper cabling, pathways, racks, and IT power implementations
- Advanced troubleshooting skills (rack, cabling, power) and ability to operate independently across multiple sites
- Strong leadership skills: supervise & validate providers' work vs. SOW, enforce Standards
- Working knowledge of critical facilities systems (HVAC, UPS, generators, fire suppression, security)
- Intermediate experience with other IT infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Network)
- Intermediate to Advanced experience with CMDB and ITIL work models.
Plus / Nice-to-Have
- ServiceNow & Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) experience a plus
- Currently holding or working on Datacenter and/or Cabling industry certifications a plus
- Examples: BICSI ITS Installer, BICSI Tech, Corning Certified Fiber Optic Installer, Commscope / Systimax Certified Installer, CDCP or CDCS (Cert. Data Centre Professional/Specialist)
- CompTIA A+ / Server+ / Network+ / Security+ certifications also a plus
- Hot Aisle Containment system experience a plus
I. Position Purpose/Scope:
Lead the planning, implementation, and support of IT infrastructure solutions from concept to deployment. Run complex operational/technical projects. Manage enterprise IT systems, including cloud computing, servers, and storage, ensuring alignment with BMW-defined standards. Provide proof-of-concept (POC) evaluations and expert guidance on implementing secure, scalable, and high-performance IT infrastructure solutions. The successful candidate will be organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Education:
BS/BA in Information Technology OR AA/AS degree with 2 years of professional experience OR 4 years of equivalent IT experience.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering, specializing in cloud services, storage, or enterprise IT systems. 5+ years of experience managing enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, and security. 3+ years of experience in IT project management. 3+ years of experience demonstrating strong communication skills in IT environments. 3+ years of junior leadership experience managing IT projects.
Training (Preferred):
6 Sigma / LEAN methodology. 5S/6S methodology.
Licenses and/or Certifications (Preferred):
ITIL certification. IT Infrastructure, IT Architecture, or other relevant IT product certifications.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Utilize 5+ years of experience in IT applications, tools, and technology to enhance operational efficiency. Apply 3+ years of agile methodology principles in IT infrastructure projects. Demonstrate 2+ years of experience in supplier/vendor management. Implement 1+ years of cloud technology experience, including infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions.
