ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position oversees the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in the assigned department(s) on a twenty-four hour basis. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management. Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures, maintains open communication with all staff and administrative team to promote improvement in performance, assumes responsibility for the role of administrative supervisor as needed, and provides leadership and support to encourage the optimum development and performance of each staff member.
Units reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services, includes: Surgery, SPD, Pre/Post, PACU, Endoscopy.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree Science of Nursing (BSN) required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.
Preferred - Master's degree in nursing.
Work Experience
Required - 5 years of experience as an RN including 2 years of experience as a charge nurse, supervisor or manager.
Certifications
Required - Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of nursing practice.
- Exceptional leadership skills.
- Good organizational skills and time management skills ability to be self-directed.
JOB DUTIES
- Provides effective leadership to the assigned departments(s) of responsibility.
- Conducts financial and resource management.
- Participates in activities for professional growth and development.
- Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned area.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer, including participation in interdepartmental and extracurricular activities.
- Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
