Mid Level Electrical Controls Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level electrical controls engineer job?
Position your existing experience around ownership and outcomes: highlight control systems you designed or improved, automation projects you led without heavy supervision, and any cross-functional coordination you handled. Tailor your resume to show PLC platforms, HMI development, and panel design relevant to each employer. Demonstrating that you can scope work, troubleshoot independently, and deliver reliable results is what separates mid level candidates from junior applicants.
Which companies hire mid level electrical controls engineers?
Companies hiring mid level electrical controls engineers right now include Owens Corning, VANGUARD MAINTENANCE & ELECTRICAL, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers industrial manufacturers, automation integrators, utilities, and defense contractors, all of which need engineers who can run projects with minimal hand-holding.
Are there remote mid level electrical controls engineer jobs?
Yes, though the role is more hands-on than most, so full remote is less common than in pure software fields. About 9% of mid level electrical controls engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, typically covering design, programming, and documentation work while reserving on-site time for commissioning, testing, and equipment integration.
How do I move up to a mid level electrical controls engineer role?
Growth from entry level to mid level comes from accumulating project ownership over time. Build depth in at least one PLC or DCS platform, take on progressively larger commissioning assignments, and document the measurable impact of your work, such as uptime improvements or cycle-time reductions. Taking initiative on cross-functional tasks and mentoring newer teammates signals readiness for mid level responsibility to most hiring managers.
Which industries hire the most mid level electrical controls engineers?
Mid Level electrical controls engineer roles concentrate in Manufacturing, Consulting & Professional Services, and Chemicals & Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they rely on continuous process automation, regulatory compliance, and equipment reliability that requires engineers who can own systems rather than just execute assigned tasks.
