Position Summary
The Electronic Quality Technician is responsible for performing in‑process and final inspections of electronic assemblies manufactured using Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through‑Hole (T.H.) processes. The Quality Technician role ensures products conform to documented requirements, workmanship standards, and customer specifications in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 9001 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Verification
- Ability to read and interpret Assembly drawings, work instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs) to inspect assemblies.
- The ability to perform the task using a microscope is a must.
- Perform visual and/or magnified inspection of SMT and T.H. assemblies for workmanship, component placement, solder joint integrity, component placement, polarity, orientation, damage, and cleanliness and labeling.
- Verify first article, in‑process, and final inspections as defined by quality plans.
- Ensure inspection criteria meet applicable standards (e.g., IPC‑A‑610, customer requirements).
- Ability to operate AOI equipment to inspect SMT assemblies for component presence, placement, polarity, orientation, solder joint quality, and defects.
- Review, analyze, and validate AOI results to distinguish true defects from false calls.
- Ability to operate X‑ray inspection systems to evaluate hidden solder joints, including BGAs, QFNs, and other bottom‑terminated components.
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming products to the rejection Database.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and recorded the accuracy as documented information.
- Communicate defects, trends, and quality concerns to your supervisor.
- Knowledge of SMT and T.H soldering defects and component types.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree with 3-year experience in electronic assembly inspection (SMT and T.H.)
- High school diploma or equivalent with technical or electronics training preferred, with 3 years’ experience in electronic assembly inspection (SMT and T.H.).
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and MS Word and Excel is a must.
- Knowledge of AOI Equipment inspection and reviewing is a plus.
- IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification or knowledge is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and work instructions.
- Ability to read manufacturer datasheets is a plus.
- Familiarity with IPC workmanship standards (IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 preferred).
- Knowledge of SMT and T.H soldering defects and component types.
- Experience using inspection tools such as microscopes and magnification aids.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
