Construction Superintendent Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction superintendent in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not issue a single statewide superintendent license, but most employers require an OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification and familiarity with New Jersey Uniform Construction Code regulations enforced by the Department of Community Affairs. A degree in construction management or civil engineering, combined with field experience as a foreman or assistant superintendent, is the standard path. Some candidates also earn credentials through the Construction Management Association of America to strengthen their standing with New Jersey employers.
How much do construction superintendents make in New Jersey?
Construction superintendents in New Jersey earn a median of about $138,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $93,130 for the lowest 10% to over $222,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction superintendents in New Jersey?
Employers hiring construction superintendents in New Jersey right now include Jobot, IPS-Integrated Project Services, and DOBCO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's active pipeline of transit capital projects and commercial development in Hudson and Essex counties keeps demand consistent across both national general contractors and regional specialty firms.
Which New Jersey cities have the most construction superintendent jobs?
Somerset, Folsom, and Newark have the most construction superintendent openings in New Jersey. Newark and Jersey City concentrate the most positions because of ongoing commercial and mixed-use development in Hudson and Essex counties, while Trenton draws openings tied to state government facilities and infrastructure upgrades. Suburban centers like Cherry Hill and Parsippany also generate consistent demand from residential developers active in Central and South Jersey.
Are there remote construction superintendent jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction superintendent work is inherently site-based, requiring daily presence to oversee crews, coordinate subcontractors, and manage inspections, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 8% of construction superintendent openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions typically involve preconstruction planning, scheduling, or owner-representative roles rather than active field supervision.
How can I get hired as a construction superintendent in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is through a field laborer, carpenter, or project engineer role with a general contractor active in New Jersey, then advancing into an assistant superintendent position. Large firms like Turner Construction and Skanska run structured internship and associate superintendent programs that accept candidates with a construction management degree and limited field time. Earning an OSHA 30-Hour certification and demonstrating knowledge of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code signals seriousness to New Jersey hiring managers and speeds the transition from entry-level field work to site management.
Where can I find and apply to construction superintendent jobs in New Jersey?
