Construction Superintendent Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction superintendent in Ohio?
The most direct path is combining field experience with formal training in construction management or civil engineering at an Ohio institution such as Ohio State University, Cincinnati State, or Columbus State. Ohio does not issue a state license specific to construction superintendents, but most employers require an OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification and expect candidates to demonstrate knowledge of the Ohio Building Code. Progression typically runs from field laborer or carpenter through foreman before reaching superintendent.
How much do construction superintendents make in Ohio?
Construction superintendents in Ohio earn a median of about $101,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,800 for the lowest 10% to over $161,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction superintendents in Ohio?
Employers hiring construction superintendents in Ohio right now include Marker, Sevan Multi-Site Solutions, and Diyanni Homes, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of large hospital systems, university campuses, and ongoing infrastructure investment means general contractors and construction managers in the state post superintendent openings year-round rather than seasonally.
Which Ohio cities have the most construction superintendent jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati consistently post the most construction superintendent openings in Ohio. Columbus drives the largest volume thanks to its sustained commercial and mixed-use development boom, while Cleveland and Cincinnati benefit from ongoing industrial facility work, healthcare campus expansions, and legacy infrastructure projects that keep large general contractors staffed throughout the year.
Are there remote construction superintendent jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction superintendent work is inherently site-based, requiring daily physical presence to manage crews, inspect work, and coordinate subcontractors. About 5% of construction superintendent openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions are almost always pre-construction or owner's representative roles where planning and coordination work can happen off-site.
How can I get hired as a construction superintendent in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an assistant superintendent or field engineer role with a mid-size Ohio general contractor, where you work directly under an experienced superintendent on active jobsites. Employers like Messer Construction and Turner Construction in Ohio regularly hire graduates from construction management programs into structured field training tracks. Coming in from a foreman, project engineer, or estimating role also positions candidates well, and holding an OSHA 30 certification gives an immediate edge over other applicants without field leadership experience.
Where can I find and apply to construction superintendent jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to construction superintendent jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
