Jackson Memorial is an accredited, tertiary teaching hospital with 1,500 licensed beds, where nearly every medical specialty is provided by some of the world's most skilled and highly regarded multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Our Emergency Department provides care to over 100,000 adult ED visits per year.
We recently completed a 300 million dollar construction project for a new 130,000 square-foot emergency department expansion here at our flagship hospital. The new Emergency Department will has approximately 115 beds and a 57 bed observation unit on the 2nd floor.
Summary
The role of Attending Physician is to provide the medical management of the various patient care programs as assigned. Maintains effective lines of communications with the medical staff, nursing, social work and management, and coordinates development, implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Performs medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to System patients. Provides direct patient care on a daily basis and provides all necessary medical record documentation including Medicare/Medicaid and third party payers requirements.
- Works as scheduled and may rotate through System. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
- Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Attendance at Medical Staff meetings and participation with/on JMH committees/sub-committees.
- Participates in utilization review, quality assessment and improvement programs to improve patient care. Provides medical consultative services to other medical personnel, specifically related to overall patient management. Maintains current standards of acceptable medical practice.
- Participates in educational programs specific to patient care. Involves patients (and family, when necessary) in the decision making process about treatment. Meets productivity standards. Attends meetings and conferences, as directed.
- Participates in mandatory educational programs, in-service/training courses to maintain job competency skills. Maintains effective communication and working relationships with JHS medical personnel in the community. Collaborates with Radiology, Pathology, Surgery, Medical Oncology, and Nursing in the clinical management of patients. Performs all credentialed medical procedures according to standards, including time-out protocols. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the continuous Quality Improvement Plan to identify improvement opportunities.
- Adheres to the Standards of Excellence at all times. Respects the rights, privacy and property of others at all times including the confidentiality of information, according to Administrative policies and all applicable laws and regulations. Complies with all applicable JHS policies and procedures, laws and regulations, and accreditation requirements (including HIPPAA and clinical trials protocol).
- Maintains current knowledge on procedures, instruments, equipment; and integrates knowledge and skills into practice. Performs other related duties as assigned. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
Doctorate degree in Medicine is required.
Emergency Medicine Residency trained.
ABEM/ AOBEM required or eligible.
Credentials
- Valid Florida Medical License.
- Active DEA and board certification is required. Other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable (ACLS/ATLS) life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
