Engineering Intern Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a engineering intern job in Kansas City?
The strongest entry points in Kansas City are manufacturing, civil and structural engineering services, and the city's growing energy and utilities sector. Candidates who concentrate on employers in the Crossroads district and along the I-435 corridor gain an edge. A portfolio showing project work or lab experience, along with familiarity with AutoCAD or SolidWorks, sets applicants apart in this market.
Which companies hire engineering interns in Kansas City?
Employers hiring engineering interns in Kansas City right now include Burns & McDonnell, GFT, and Bayer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Kansas City's mix of large industrial firms, civil infrastructure consultancies, and a rising tech-adjacent manufacturing base means openings appear across a wide range of employer types and sizes.
Are there remote engineering intern jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for hands-on roles and more common for data, computational, or software-focused engineering work. About 67% of engineering intern openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's practical on-site requirements. Analytical and modeling tasks within larger engineering projects tend to be the most remote-compatible in this market.
How can I get a engineering intern job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Kansas City is through project-based coursework or community college technical programs that connect directly with local employers. Smaller civil and mechanical consulting firms in the Crossroads and Midtown areas regularly bring on interns with no prior work history. Completing a relevant capstone or contributing to a student design competition gives Kansas City hiring managers something concrete to evaluate.
