Environmental Engineer Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a environmental engineer job in Seattle?
Focus your search on environmental consulting firms, clean energy developers, construction companies, and public utilities, which are the heaviest hirers in Seattle. The Duwamish River cleanup, Puget Sound restoration work, and the city's aggressive stormwater and sustainability programs create consistent openings. Candidates with hands-on site assessment experience, HAZWOPER certification, or familiarity with Washington State environmental regulations stand out in this market.
Which companies hire environmental engineers in Seattle?
Seattle environmental engineer roles are posted by Amazon, HDR, and WSP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Seattle's mix of large engineering and construction firms, regional environmental consultancies, and public agencies like the City of Seattle and King County makes for a broad and active hiring landscape.
Are there remote environmental engineer jobs in Seattle?
Yes, but with limits, environmental engineering is largely field-based, so fully remote roles are uncommon, though desk-heavy work like data analysis, permitting, and report writing often allows hybrid schedules. About 11% of environmental engineer openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Roles focused on environmental compliance documentation, GIS analysis, and regulatory reporting are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements in Seattle.
How can I get a environmental engineer job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is through environmental consulting firms that hire field technicians or environmental scientists as a stepping stone to engineer roles. King County, the Port of Seattle, and the City of Seattle regularly post entry-level environmental positions that build practical experience fast. Volunteering with Puget Soundkeeper or similar local organizations adds relevant fieldwork to a thin resume, and familiarity with Washington's Model Toxics Control Act regulations signals local readiness to Seattle employers.
Which industries hire the most environmental engineers in Seattle?
Most environmental engineer openings in Seattle sit in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Seattle's major infrastructure investment, active waterway remediation projects, and the region's strong commitment to clean energy and green building drive consistent demand across those sectors.
